Good IAT temps?
Where is your IC located?
I would think that you would be a little lower then that. Not that the mid 170s is that hot,but it does sound a little warm .But to be fair 18psi is a good amount of boost.A friend of mine was running 10psi out of his T trim and it was around 225deg without an IC, so I think you could get the temps down.
When I run around 12psi on a 74deg day my IAC at the end of the run is around 113deg.Im using a 2 core ATI intercooler in the nose so it gets a good amount of air moving past it....also made an IC sprayer from some leftover n2o parts I had laying around just incase I need to drop the temps a little more.
Steve, this turns out to be a hard question, at least for me to answer.
I pulled up some datalogs and took a look at 6 of them,
the IAT's were all over the place.
Here is what I saw on 3 of them.
On one, 2 min data log, I did on the street. I noted it was a 70* day, IAT's were 98* to 101* cruising and at WOT, (2nd thru 4th) climbed to 141* w/16# boost.
The next log was done at an 1/8 mile track. By the time I staged, IAT's were 117* and went to 187* @ 16.5# boost. 85 degree day. And was climbing fast, a few more seconds it would have been at 200*
The last log is the first pass, on the vidio in my sig (1/8 mile). I was using a larger pulley, and the belt was slipping that night, only saw 9# boost. The air temp was 94 degrees, after the burnout AIT's were 131* and went up to 161*
So there must be a lot of variables that effect IAT's.
I think at a 1/4 mile track, after doing a burn out and the run, IAT's could be over 210* on a 75 degree day w/18#'s boost.
My IC is a Procharger 3 core race, up front. See pic

Those 3 core race intercoolers flow really well but don't cool as well as the 4 inch crossflow FMIC alot of guys use. I think your intercooler will flow better than mine but doesn't cool as much. That being said I would take cfm over Iat's if mine was a race car.
My IAT's never get above 150 in a quarter mile run at 15 psi on a 95 degree day. Of course I'm spraying a bunch of meth too which is not measured by the iat sensor so actual is probably alot lower.
BTW I really like that picture of your Z28.

My temps were pretty consistent, run to run (1/4 mi.).
My buddy has a turbo car, and at 25 psi (1/4 mi) he sees 150 degrees or so. He has an air/air that is the biggest I've seen (next to a semi). Not sure if it's 3 or 4", but is just about headlight to headlight on a 84 Cutlass!
