Angry ??going back to the stock pan with new motor/turbo??

How many run the stock oil pan with a FI setup? Stock oil pump and pick-up?

How deep is the stock pan? How deep is the pick-up?

How deep is the Canton pan (7 inches i think)? How deep is that pick-up?

I bought this motor with the oil pan, oil pump and pick-up assembly installed. Basically, i'd like to know if I can switch to the stock pan and use the stock pick-up on whatever oil pump I have.

If I can't use that oil pump and the stock pick-up, can I use the stock oil pump on my turbo motor? I'll be making 650+ so I need to keep this safely lubed.

The oil pump pickup tube and oil pan go hand in hand. If the aftermarket pan is deeper than your stock pan, then it requires a different pickup thats longer.

If the Canton pan is the same height as the stocker, then you can use your stock pickup. The answer lies really with contacting Canton and asking the manufacturer of the pan what theyre recommended pickup is.

As far as oil pump, most will agree a high volume is the way to go. Unless you have an LS1 where that option isnt available.

Yes you can use a stock pickup on any oil pump.

Rich and Julio,

Thanks for the info. When I get my k-member, I'll be switching back the the stock pan. This leaking canton just isn't worth my time/effort.

I'm curious what you did about the windage tray if you are using the stock pan? Anyone NOT use a windage tray with the stock pan? I bought a windage tray stud kit but I really don't see how I'll get it to work with the crank. There is barely any clearance at all..

I actually called today to order a Canton but they were out.. Is leaking a common problem then? .. I'd rather just say screw the windage tray and go w/ the stock pan and pickup. Obviously this would save me time as well as $$$...

Any help here would be great before I just start blowing my money.

Thanks!

Sam

im using a oil pan sold by www.tpis.com its a 5 qrt pan making a 6 qrt system. Its basically the stock pan a little deeper, with all the goodies inside. I think they also have a 7 qrt pan that is similar in design. From what I remember it was fairly cheap.

Mine does not leak

Hey sleeperz28 , can you give me anymore details or info on this TPIS pan? Is it a modified stock pan? Does it have trap doors and a windage tray? I am on a waiting list at NuTek with about 10 other guys for a Canton oil pan, but now looking at the way their pan is shaped, it wont work on my application. I have a 396 being built, and I dont want to use the stock pan with no windage tray. I also have Grotyohann long tube headers, and it doesnt look like the pan will fit at all on the passenger side. This will necessitate me going with Hooker or Jet Hot long tubes and a new y-pipe. I really dont want to go through the hassle of selling my long tubes and y-pipe, and getting a new set, and go through the BS of fitment issues with a new long tube/y-pipe setup, and having it mate to my 4 inch Mufflex. if you have any pics of this pan, on the car or off it would be of great help to me, thanks.

NJLT1SS I have seen the inside of a canton pan and they do look nice with several trap doors. I believe its this way because its a road race pan. The one that I have from tpi is more of a drag race pan, has 2 trap doors, if i remember right, and they are located before the pan slopes to the top. Yes it has a windage tray. The only thing this pan does not have when compairing it to the factory pan is the oil level sensor hole.

I didn't have any clearance issues with the windage tray. I'm using a Callies Dragonslayer Crank and Eagle H-beam rods. The only changes to my stock Oil pan was to pound it out a little to clearance the # 1,2 & 7 Rods.
