go with cometic or felpro 1074

Which one should I go for? I've heard cometic u can hold some good boost/high hp, but they cost a bit more...

then there is felpro 1074, which is a bit cheaper but do a very good job as well...

so which should I go for?

this is for a turbo LT1 boosting around 10psi, and around 15psi in the future (once i upgrade the drivetrain and get GT67 which will be like next year)

Fel Pro should be fine with those boost numbers.. I switched to Cometics at around 20# boost, only because the heads were lifting. I switched to studs and cometics and no more problems.

Should be fine. I've seen a little over 16 psi on mine with FelPro's and ARP head bolts (not studs)

I'm not running a turbo, but I'm making 11psi with my Vortech S-trim, and haven't had any problems with FelPro's. I do use ARP head studs.

I'm not gonna buy expensive gaskets if I don't have to.

The cost difference between cometics and felpro 1074 is only a few dollors. The cometics are reusable but need a very smooth surface to work well.

Using them on both the 396 lt1 and 3.8 GN buick I'm building so I won't know how well they work till next year.

Expensive?? Isn't it even more expensive if you have to do the job again not to mention parts damage. I would spend the extra few dollars for the best gasket available.

Has anyone experienced any coolant leaking issues with the cometics?

no coolant leaking but I did get oil leaking from them. I think it's because I didn't have the block super shiny clean before I installed them.

I agree TJ, to an extent. DETONATION is usually the culprit when head gaskets let go in a supercharged "street" engine. With proper engine assembly, and good tuning, blowing a head gasket is rare. Besides that, FelPro does make good quality gaskets.

sometimes blowing a HG isnt a bad thing either IMO. I've had a coupe motors where I wish it had blown a HG first before grenading a piston or two.... or three .. etc

Yes, the heads were loose and I was blowing boost into the cooling system

Shame on you, Brady. You changed two variables at one time. To me, not a valid 'thumbs up' for cometics.
