FINALLY some more updates on the turbo car
FINALLY some more updates on the turbo car
Wow, where to start. After the SLP day at Ennis, I brought the car home. I decided to yank the TH400 and all the stuff in exchange for a better T56 and a McLeod street twin. I rebuilt the transmission with some good parts from D&D and by luck I scored a Moser 9" for $650 and my stock 10 bolt. It had been whored to a few cars but for the price I'm not complaining. I finally wired up my two step rev limiter so I could build boost off the line. It's been too the track twice since I got the new drivetrain put in. Still stock internals LT1. The first night out, I had trouble with the booster pump fuses blowing so I could only run low boost. Which was fine because I had 1/2 a tank of 93 that I didn't burn up as fast as I expected. Netted a best of a 12.1 at 119 all night. Not bad for 7-8psi. The bad thing was when I went to a buddy's shop to weld on some subframe connector I found that my bellhousing was cracked. Upon pulling it, I found it to be in 3 seperate peices. Awesome! Swapped the bellhousing to a new one. We fabbed some tougher dow pins in the transmission to bellhousing joint. The other ones where laying the bottom of the bellhousing when we pulled it apart.
Last friday was cool. Rewired the booster pump with 8 gauge wire and a manual switch in the cockpit. First pass of the night, everything was dialed in. I pulled about 4psi off the two step at 5k. Dumped the clutch and didn't move. The driveshaft broke into 3 peices and somehow the front ujoint seperated. It didn't break. It's a stock LS1 driveshaft with a conversion ujoint in the back (still ok). It's like the plastic holding the caps on the front joint broke and flung the caps out. I have no explenation.
Anyway, for the kit. I've already redesigned a lot of the exhaust system and I'm working with a mandrel bender here in town to reproduce everything. I'm doing a turbo install on his KZ1000 so we are helping each other out. All the better to keep pricing down. Pics are no longer an issue and I will have some posted up shortly. Finally got a digital camera. I've also just finished a kit on a 3.8lt firebird that I am going to road test tonight and I'll post details in another thread. I am hoping to release the Lt1, 3.8, and a twin turbo suburban kit soon. The suburban kit will be awesome when finished!

Be careful launching on a 2Step and slicks. IT only took twice for me to twist the tranny output shaft and the slip yoke and twist the splines on 5/6th gear. $600 in parts from D & D and $500 in labor and i had a working tranny again. I should have went with an Automatic at that time. BTW that was a 5K rpm's with a WOT dump running a Street Twin and ET drags, Boost was at 5 psi while launching
