EGT Question
EGT Question
I have a 94 TA with a 383 Golen engine with an ATI Procharger D1SC, Pacesetter long tubes, Magnaflow cats, MSD 6btm ignition with NGK TR6 plugs. Opti is about 3ys old with about 6k miles on it. It is one of the Dynaspark models. I have some initial tuning done by pcmforless (Bryan). The motor only has about 200 miles on it and I am getting a miss that is increasing in severity. I pulled # 1 plug and it is carboned and black. I am going to pull all the plugs and check or replace them. The car under load feels like it is popping or missing. Occasionally it seems like it is back firing. I also noticed when I pulled the car into the garage to check for spark leaks near the wires while in the dark, my # 5 header tube is glowing slightly red at the bend.
My plan was to pull the plugs and check, replace if needed. Gap to 35 for the supercharger. Check the coil although it is a new MSD blaster and should be ok. I will also check the wires for damage and tightness at the optispark. After this if I still have the miss I was going to disconnect the msd box and connect only the factory ignition in case the msd is bad. I data logged the car and my long terms are at 128 but the short terms are around 138-150. The 1st tune had me rich and kept the long terms at 108-114. I had this tune in for about 40 miles prior to adjusting with the current tune.
As of yet I have not had the car tuned on the dyno but am planning to do so. I dont know if the plugs are carboned because of an ignition problem or if I have a fuel or tuning issue. I also dont know if the header being red is normal at idle but I dont think so.
Any ideas from you guys would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: EGT Question
My only problem is if I cant get any rpms I will not be any good on the dyno. If something is wrong then the dyno will be a wasted trip. Some thing I have found today is all of the plugs look pretty good. Mostly white insulators and clean electrodes. Wires are connected and tight.Nothing appears grounded. I did notice some popping through the intake side on accell. Could I be loosing an optispark?
Re: EGT Question
The opti is a common cause of similar problems. I will also say that the issue you are having could simpy be resolved by having a full dyno tune done. Worst case scenario, if you go to get it tuned, and it is not tune related, at least Bryan should be able to put you in the exact direction you need to go.
I am having my 95 Z28, 383 with a D1SC and 12 pounds of boost tuned by Bryan in a matter of days.

Re: EGT Question
Funny you should ask. My car took a little longer than expected to finish up, and I had to miss my appointment with Bryan. Unfortunatly, he is currently buying a house and will be busy for the next several weeks, and I can't wait that long for my tune. So I have to go elsewhere. It sucks to because IMO Bryan is the best and really wanted him to do the tune. So far I have only found 2 other possibilities for the tune, and neither of them feel confident they can get me a good tune for my car, where Bryan could give me a good tune even though he said it would be difficult.
