Do I Need The Bypass Valve

I installed the powerdyne 6# kit on my 1997 Camaro. I have an LT1 six speed, and everything else is pretty much stock except for the charger, fmu, an added in line fuel pump, and msd ignition, all included with the kit. My question is whether or not I should use a bypasss valve. Thanks for the help

It isn't necessary, so there is no real point.

A bypass valve is not mandatory at low boost levels but I would recommend installing one any way. Just think about it when you pull your foot off the gas after running at what to 6K the throttle bodie blades close but your engine and blower are still turning that back pressure cant be good for the blower.

Just my opinion...

I agree with Jeff. Low boost does not NEED a by-pass valve but there is no negative to NOT using one.

Higher boost cars NEED a by-pass valve.

I just want to point out even if you have low boost the s/c, turbo is feeding an engine sping at 5000+ rpm when you shift you dont get the boost you have when under throtle you get alot more psi becaue all the air is extremly restricted. I would reccomed a bov on any turbo sc engine just to be on the safe side.

Its safe, but again, with that particular setup, what's the point? A few leaks can hurt performance, and he's really not gaining anything.

I'm using a Paxton bypass on my Powerdyne setup (~ 8.0 PSI though). My dyno tuner took it upon himself to install it because he was sure it helps the low load tuning some. I can hear it working quite a bit .....I think it's worth it but a BOV would not be in a low boost setup (already tried it). Stick with a bypass or nothing. If you plan on keeping the blower for awhile I recommend it. It will keep the air charge from heating up as much as it would without it (in cruise conditions).
