"Designed for Stock Engine" claims...are they true?
I have absolutely no need for massive amounts of hp. +/- 500. So eventually, I was considering bolting a Procharger (or something, maybe even a maggie) to my GTO (LS2). Don't have super-high amounts of money,
cause I blew it all on the goat.
Anyways, my question is, you here all these companies tell you that the Supercharger was "designed and fabricated on stock engines", and that "under normal driving the engine longevity will not be negatively effected"...Are they full of $hit? I mean, if I pop a 5-7 psi intercooled blower on, will my engine last as long as it might without one? (low mileage per year).
I know the LT1 had issues with any sort of boost, but I'm talking LS2 here.
Thanks for any help, you guys!

the ls motors are better suited for boost but a stock shortblock will be always a risky thing with a blower. If you really want it beware that it could go at anytime. Keep an eye on your fuel and spark, watch out for detention(sp) and pre ignition.
Don't expect 500hp with a 5psi Procharger. I know you start with more power, but with a 5psi kit, headers, no cats, my 98Z went from 317hp to 407. Not what the manufacturer claimed, but I am leaving it until I build a stroker.
If you do the Procharger, get a D1SC and pulley it for 6 psi. I got the P1SC, and regret not spending the extra $200. Oh well. I will run with this and just send it in for rebuild and upgrade to D1SC down the road....

The thing that kills engines are rpm's unless they are built to take it. You will have more stress on the engine buts its how often you use it and to what extent. Having the car properly tuned is important and not running it to lean.
Honestly I don't think any of the motors between an LT1, LS1, or even LS2 is better than the others when it comes to handling boost. All of them are non forged, high compression engines that were simply not designed to handle boost from the factory. A low boost setting (say 5#'s) with the supporting mods (fuel system, ignition, intercoolers, methanol injection, dyno tune ect.) will help keep things "safe", but even then, I doubt you would see the same mileage before a rebuild than if you stay N/A. Its simple. Boost puts more wear on your motor that wasn't meant to handle boost from the factory.
IMO, you are better off (especially if you are on the budget you say you are) of just going with a good heads, cam, and intake setup with a good tune. This will give you more power than just 5#'s of boost would, and it would cost you a LOT less, and not put the extra wear on your stock bottom end.

Patriot, and AFR are probably two different companies that make good aftermarket heads for your car just off the top of my head. I would try a search or do more research though as I am sure there are TONS of great aftermarket heads for your car.
