D1 external oil source

Currently running a D1 on a 383 97ss. Thinking of fabricating an external oil source (non-engine) to lube the Procharger. Tank + electric Weldon oil pump (3_lbs/ 3 to 5 amp load). I see the Procharger site talks about self_contained oiling as better due to lower temperature operation and possibly reduced charged air temps. Comments??? B.

I think that would be awfully expensive for a marginal decrease in oil temperature.

I would just take it from above the oil filter and be done with it.

I think it would be worthwhile for two reasons:

1) Lower intake temps
2) If the blower lets loose you don't contaminate your engine oil

BTW, the Renegade class of the NMRA does not allow the use of intercoolers. I remember reading when LaRocca switched to a self contained unit his IATs dropped by 55 degrees. Now, combine that w/ Alky or an IC, it could proove very beneficial.

Thanks for repley. Was starting to think it was a dumb question (probably is). I have a Weldon #9200 vane type oil pump (picked up used) and it will put out 30 psi minimum -6an line outlet. A very quality pump. I was thinking of fabricating a small tank (from 3" alum tube about 9" long) since I have all the fabrication tools. Don't know about temp data, but, I know the blower involute does get hot. I think I will do this, but, as a side project. Sorry I posted this. B. (97ss 383 - D1 M6)

I would just run engine oil to a cooler and then to the blower....

or you could fab up a sump system....but the bigger the sump the better
