Is a compression Ratio of 7.8 to low.

Hey guys I have the chance to get some airflow research heads (72cc chambers) the only problem is that my compression will be around 7.8 to 1. Is this to low? I have a 383 and a D1 intercooled on a 94 trans am lt1. whats your guys opinions on this type of setup?

Thanks for the info,

Kenneth

7.8:1 will give you lots of room to turn up the boost or have more error in tuning.

What's a D1, sorry but I'm a newbie to the F-body technical terms.

D1 is a procharger similar to T trim.

why not just mill the heads down to get the compression up a bit? I would say that is way too low. With NA lt1s running 12.5:1, you can gauge how low 7.8:1 would be!

Yeah I know that they run 6.0 : 1. and if im running 7.8 to 1 that will give me room for a lot of boost. I was mostly worried about idel and things of that nature. I know the compression for boost will work fine at that compression level.
Thanks for all the info guys, I will post my results after the head install.

Thanks,

Kenneth

LOL. My last 383 was 8.3:1 c/r for the D1... but i never got the D1 installed so i was driving around on that n/a for a long time, and it wasnt bad at all

So 7.8:1 with boost is totally fine in my opinion.

The ratio is fine. Run 18# on the D1 and you'll be fine. The intercooler will help you out as well as the low compression.

Well you know with volkswagen motors, 8:1 is considered high compression.
