Post Chain Driven Blower?????

Hello,

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...ighlight=chain

I was wondering if anyone had some more recent information on this?

Race only? Why not for street??
I can't think of any reason a chain would not be reliable to transmit this type of power considering high powered bikes put a heck of a lot of torque through them.

For those considering or who have thought of a cogged belt setup: Have you considered a chain drive?

Just looking for thoughts really........

Thanks,

Is it any more hard on parts than a cogged setup??? What are the drawbacks on the street for a cogged setup?

I understand how a ribbed belt can be forgiving........But what exactly fails with a cogged or chain drive? Are we breaking impellers due to acceleration or deceleration? Seems unlikely...

I could be dead wrong, but doesn't ATI have a direct gear drive for the street (~crank mount)?

A local guy WAS tring one on a low 7sec car but keeped braking chains and sprockets. He's swiched to a cog and is running high 6s now.

The SC impeller has a lot of inertia at high rpm. When the rpm changes suddenly (shifts) or when the throttle is abruptly closed at high rpm, there is a huge load on the drive system. A belt that slips a little will absorb some of the load and keep things from breaking/bending/twisting. Experience has proven that a ribbed belt works best for everything but a race application. There, a cog offers more ability to transmit power for a given belt size. However, the alignment must be precise and the mounts very rigid for it to work right. And it still stresses everything more than a rib. A ribbed belt is a little more forgiving, a chain much less so.

Even the big Roots style blowers, which take several hundred hp to drive, use a cog belt and not a chain. That should tell you something.
