Cam Recommendation for STS turbo
Re: Cam Recommendation for STS turbo
I had a cc306 with mine and the stock motor, it seemed to make it boost a bit more, not sure why.... I guess the turbo and the cam didnt like eachother...
right now i have a 227/224 .560/.560 114lsa cam

Find a mild turbo grind something like a 222/222 on a 114 or 115 LSA
Re: Cam Recommendation for STS turbo
yeah, i had that problem lol.... 306 with a turbo, didnt work so well lol
but why do u say only 5, 6 psi of boost? we got the stock turbo upto 14psi.... that turbo easily can handle 10psi....

My guess would be that he meant you will run into detonation without an intercooler or as you have, meth inj. not that the turbo wasn't capable of more. My .02.
Re: Cam Recommendation for STS turbo
I've done a search for turbo cams & STS setups, and this thread seemed to be the best place to post.
Here is my setup:
383
All forged rotating assembly, 4 bolt splayed mains
9:1 CR
LT4 intake & heads
52mm TB
GMPP Hot cam
1.6 roller rockers
Mac mid-length headers
Home made 62-1 rear mount turbo system w/ FMIC
Here are my issues so far:
Real bad cam surge around 2K RPM (was this way NA as well)
Power drops off on dyno past 4700 RPM (suspect this is mostly a boost controller issue)
I'm considering a cam swap, since I can use the Hot cam in my 80K mile LT1 that came out of my TA when it goes into the 240Z.
I'm looking to run around 15 PSI and stay under 6500 RPM. I've read the stock cam is good for up to 15 PSI & 6K RPM, and this would certainly be a cheap way to go since I already have one in the other motor, but I'd rather have a purpose built cam for my application.
Once I figure out what to buy, the next issue is where is the best place to buy a turbo specific cam?

Re: Cam Recommendation for STS turbo
you want a good turbo cam, call up cam motion in baton rouge Louisiana.
if you want a shelf cam look up thunder racings reverse split turbo cams.
also email STS, they can recomend the cam for your goals and point you in the right direction.

I agree with 93formula, theres all kinds of variables that will determine the best grind for your setup and many of the bigger name companies have software that will calculate it for you in seconds...all you gotta do is call....ahhh technology =)
