Buying a used SC?

I have done some reading on here for a while and prety much all the parts I have bought for my car have been used. Have had nothing but good luck and saved a lot of money. I may want to pick up a used blower, I have seen some great deals on Power dynes to the point if I wanted to upgrade I could resell for what I bought them for. Are there any thing you have to look for in purchasing a used blower kit?

Yea, every thing I supose can be visually inspected, so I supose the head unit is the main source of concern if you never saw it run. Seeing your red Z28 has swayed me in to looking at blowers, the lack green cant suply the means at the moment how ever.

Stick with a gear driven blower like Vortech or ATI. Stay away from the belt driven ones like the Paxton.

If you're going to do something, please do it right. Don't waste your money on Powerdyne.

Aside from all else, most used blowers are fine. Just be careful who you are dealing with. I got mine used, and it couldn't have worked out more perfect. My guy sent me the first box before I even paid him!! Talk about trust. I even threw in more money when we discovered my multiple Paypals (they only take $1200/transaction) were taking a huge chunk out of him.

Now with nothing more than headers and a pro charger, I am a torque converter away from the 11's!!

Thanks CZ28 and ATI!

in terms of making the transaction go well, i would recommend:

if you can inspect the parts b4 you buy that would be good

if you cant, but its from online like from this forum, check the user out. see if they have posts about the blower, note any problems they might have mentioned, make sure you can get contact info and that they arent some hump job

get pictures of everything if you can to prove they have it all

send the $ as securely as possible

get any receipts they may have about blower rebuilds, etc

save and print out all threads, emails, communication, etc

and i certainly learned that if at all possible, send some $, get part of the kit, then send the rest of the $, then recieve the rest of the kit. sending all the $ and then waiting is nerve racking

and unless you will never want more power from it, skip the powerdyne....

Just use common sense like you would anything else. If the parts look worn and abused, don't be afraid to walk away. Check all the bolt holes in the brackets and see if any are striped. Check the pullies and see if they are wallowed out. Check the snout of the supercharger if there isn't a pulley on it. Just check and double check everthing. Oh, inspect all the hoses carefully, when I got my vortech, the oil supply hose was nearly burnt through, it cracked when I bent it.

You may want to do some more research if you are thinking Powerdyne. I have a Powerdyne. You may want to go to my web page devoted to my Powerdyne experience.
