BTM required with boost?

Is a BTM required with a 8-10# blower? I have LT1 Edit, and I imagine I could just pull out timing in boost-usable RPM's. Just confirming if I'm right or if I don't have a clue.

Jason you WILL need a BTM as Edit does not pull out timing with boost.

Good news is, I could be encouraged to sell mine. I have an MSD6 BTM and now that I have gone to a FAST I do NOT need the BTM feature.

However, I would have to buy a new ignition box so let me know.

No you are correct..You can pull timing out with Lt1 Edit but the MSD BTM would still be nice to have but not necessary with LT1 Edit.

I had a BTM box before I got my car Street tuned by Bryan at PCMFORLESS and later my BTM crapped out on me so I just went with a MSD 6A box because it was cheaper and all I really needed was the stronger spark on top end and I heard that the MSD BTM box fails a lot more frequently than a regular MSD 6A box.

Hope that helps,
Claude

Nah Mikey doesn't do tuning, I'll be doing it myself. I just wanted to check before I did anything. I already have a MSD 6A, so spark shouldn't be an issue.

I stand corrected

How does Edit recognize the boost to be able to take out the timing?

shaun: OBDI doesnt recognize boost .. but since ur boost is going to be constant at any rpm .. all u have to do is to figure out how much boost ur seeing under various MAP and RPM cells .. and adjust ur tables accordingly

thats what i will do with my car .. and of course i'll have to use my digital 6 for additional timing retard when the happy switch comes on

the BTM is only for people who cant tune their timing manually

The PCM does not read pressure. Since supercharger boost is linear, you can map out how much timing needs to be taken out where. With a turbo, this would be MUCH more difficult, if not impossible(except for trial & error). The BTM is EASIER, but doing it through Edit would be better in the longterm.

Remember, the BTM can only pull a max of 15* of timing.

The BTM is nice to have if you need to make a quick change in timing... for bad gas, an extremely hot day, etc.

Jason just get a piggy back btm unit (will be cheaper than getting a btm with ignition box in one)
I would personally run one, but I also put in race gas where as you will most prob use only pump gas then you can set your timing where you want. In all honesty I would save money and get a older accel ecu and setup the tune with that.
