Talking BOV can be run without BYPASS!

I'm running an 8lb pulley on an ATI P600B

I have been running an HKS SS for over a year without any surge problems what so ever, I call both HKS USA and ATI before I installed the solid intake pipe and moved the mass air to right in front of the TB they both said it would work fine. I mouted the bov after the mass air just before the intake pipe makes the 90* bend and heads down to the intercooler. I've read quite a few posts on here that say you have to have a bypass aswell, I'n not seeing any side affects that I am aware of! it runs in the 11's seems to idle fine, I'm just wondering why ATI and HKS would tell be it was fine, if it wasn't! HKS told me the Supersequential has two valve that release, one that a litlle air out when it senses vacuum and the main one that opens up when there a sudden burst of pressure or vaccum, or change in I guess is what I'm trying to say, Maybe this stopping me from getting compresser surge???? What do you think! It seems to work fine!

just because it's "working" doesn't mean that you aren't putting extra strain on the blower bearings/seals/etc

I agree with 89ProchargedRoc I think the older vortech kits didn't come with a bypass valve.. that doesn' mean having one isn't a good thing. The bypass and BOV perform different functions.

So you guys are saying definetley run a bypass, ( bov is just a toy no need for it) Is there any bypass valve that I can buy that vents to the atmosphere that you would recommend(good sound) and most importantly works good) I no longer have my stock ATI one, and would like something loud if possible, Right now I can barley hear the HKS SS over the engin and exhaust!!

I have a 15# ATI blower and I DID get surge with the blower when I only had the HKS and the surge valve disconnected. It surged even at idle. I just had to have the blower serviced with new seals but probably NOT as a result of this issue.

They perform different functions. The only benefit is a "belt and suspender" safety factor and of course the sound.

I HAVE to have the surge valve and candidly, knowing what I now know, I would NOT have bothered with the HKS valve.

bypass valve: a vacuum operated butterfly type valve that simply closes under boost and is open under vacuum conditions to BYPASS the compressed air a supercharger is always making

BOV: a spring type actuated valve that when the spring sees a certain amount of pressure against it (from when you slam shut the throttle and compressed air has no where to go) the BOV opens and expels it. Similar to a bypass valve but different design

if you plan to run 12-15psi i'd run both

otherwise just the bypass should work fine. Just make sure its a quality one. I know the stock vortech one was a bottleneck for INTMD8 and the stock ATI one isn't that great

ISn't funny that ATI and HKS both told me it would work????

I'll change it now, and recomendations on a half decent price one, and where to get it?

I'm sorry I should be more specific. On an 8 lbs blower you probably do not NEED a by-pass valve. ATI ALSO told me that I would not need a by-pass valve.

However, a 15# pulley is pushing more air then an 8.

Literally, if I take the vacuum hose off the by-pass valve, then the blower will immediately start wheezing as the blower is spinning air that has no where to go but to turn back on itself.

If I was able to put a video up on the web I could show you.

When I spoke to ATI AFTER I put the HKS on, and exlpained to them, they did concede that a bigger blower would possibly have the problem.

In addition, I have the by-pass venting to atmosphere and even at IDLE I have a tornado of air venting under the car. If I disconnect the by-pass, that air has nowhere to go except back up the blower.

Again, an 8# probably does not have the same level of problem as I do.

Yes but NOT loud in a good way. I hated the sound of the by-pass venting to atmosphere.

I'm just now arranging to vent it into a solid intake tube I'm trying to make up.

With it venting to atmosphere you will definately NOT hear the HKS at ALL.

Remember you are puting heated air into your intake when you vent it into a intake. That is one of the reasions i vent to atmosphere.troy

I wanna hear how it sounds.. my buddy with a vortech is coming over this weekend and I am gonna try it out on his car. Maybe I can take a short movie to show what it sounds like.
