bought a T76 but exhaust side looks huge, can someone confirm?

I've never seen a T76 in person but I bought one from a guy telling me it was rebuildable. OK, so I figured for the price it would still be cheaper than a new one even if I had to change every single part out.

Turbo came today and this sucker weighs 50lbs!! Opened the box and this snail looks like a T88. I know the compressor side is T76 but the turbine side looks massive. I thought the turbine wheel would be something like Q-trim but it's way bigger. I really don't know if this bigger exhaust is good or bad. On one side it could result in more top end. On the other hand I could experience lots of lag time. Anyways, here are the specs. Let me know what you guys think

Cold Side:

Compressor Wheel 76mm Inducer, 102mm Major

0.75 A/R Compressor Housing

5 in. Inlet and 3.5 in Outlet

Hot Side:

Big-Shaft 76 Trim Turbine Wheel 99mm major, 86mm Exducer

0.96 A/R Turbine Housing w/Tangential Scroll, 5 in. V-Band outlet

Standard Large-Frame (Thumper) inlet, bolt spacing about 4.5 in. x 2.75 in.

This is going on a 383 LS1 fully ported heads, forged bottom, looking to get 800-900rwhp. Would that big exhaust be an advantage?

Definitely a large frame from what you describe ... I personally wouldn't call it a T76, since people usually think of a medium frame T4. Seller probably called it a T76 since it is a more recognizable name than the proper model name for that turbo (TV71,TV85, etc.). It will make significantly more power than a T76 ... but you'll be getting a little extra lag with that heavy turbine wheel/shaft.

Thanks Eddie. Do you know if this will be a good turbo for the engine it's going in? I figure if lag is a big problem, I'll order one size smaller turbine housing. I know this should put out some major hp, just need full boost (15-18psi) to come on before 5000rpms. Anywhere after that I'm gonna have to reconsider rebuilding

I'd say it's a great turbo for the engine, and I think it'll spool a lot faster than you think. If your only requirements are full boost by 5k and 900rwhp, then you're set.
