Boost on hyp. pistons

Hey all. I have an 82 Camaro with the following:

350HO Crate engine (hyp pistons, nodular iron crank, LT1 rods)

Comp Extreme Energy 274 cam (230/236@.050, .478/.480 w/ 1.5)

Ported and Polished Vortec heads, shaved with shim gaskets for 10.06:1 compression

Super victor for vortecs intake, Speed Demon 650 mech secondary carb, MSD pro billet distributor, MSD blaster 2 coil, MSD 6A ignition

TH350, Hughes Pro Street 3000 stall, 3.73's and SLP POSI

My best pass with a crappy 2.0 60 foot is a 12.68 @ 108.91. I am looking for some more power after I get sticky tires. I have been looking at ATI Prochargers for some time now. Do you guys think my bottom end will handle a P1SC running 6-7 intercooled PSI? What kind of gains do you think I will see in both mph and 1/4 mile.

A small nitrous shot will do as much for your quarter mile times as a low boost blower and be much less likely to give you a "free admission" to the "bought a SC, did a rebuild" club.

Thanks for the advice! So you think a 100 shot would be sufficient on hyp's?

Hypers don't like boost at all. If your gonna put a procharger on there i'd defintetly invest in some forged pistons.

Hit it with a wet 100 shot.....

you should be in the high to mid 11's with a 100shot and maybe trap 118....thats just a guess

I dont think the Hyp. pistons like nitrous or boost. Sure you can use either one and make the pistons live, just use really good gas and becareful with the timing. With either one start off small and read the plugs, if you don't know how to read plugs let me know and I will get you a really good article that also explains what small steps to make to keep stepping up the power.

Hypercrapticinstamelt pistons are actually fairly strong and light

BUT they do not tolerate detonation or preignition at all, especially with added heat from boost. The ring land will usually melt and disappear out the exhaust.

I have sprayed a 200 shot on them, and am now running 12 psi of intercooled boost. As long as you don't detonate them, they will hold up ok.

BUT if you plan on abusing it regularly at the track with spray or boost, forged are cheap insurance against replacing the entire motor.
