Best spark plug for supercharged 383 w/ AFR heads?
Best spark plug for supercharged 383 w/ AFR heads?
What are my options for spark plugs for my 383 LT1 that is soon to be supercharged. My heads are AFR heads ported by TPIS. I plan on running somewhere between 12 and 15#'s of boost with a D1SC. I am aware that Autolite's are popular for the AFR heads, but I wanted to know specifically which ones would be best for my application. Also, are Autolites the only ones I could use? Are there any others that would work well with my set up? (NGK for example?)

I have used NGK, but, now I discovered the ZEX plug for SC or NO2 applications. I decided I like them. Engine seams to run alot better.

I got the Champion rep sending me some RC10YC and RC9YC plugs to try in a a similar setup. Past that I would need the 59's or maybe 63s which were developed for drag racing - they are built tougher for blowout, but they have no resistor. I'll try NGK plugs if none of these don't work.

I wouldn't say NGKs are out for sure. I would run their V Groove Racing Plugs as listed in that thread. The big Turbo guys swear by these plugs..
Re: Best spark plug for supercharged 383 w/ AFR heads?
Oh. I though I read that the NGK's wouldn't seat right to the AFR heads. Maybe I didn't read it carefully enough and labeled a particular NGK to all of them.

Yea, any taper style plug will not seat right with the AFRs. TR6's, TR5's, Autolite 103's, 104's, etc.. You just want to make sure you get a gasketed plug. I am running Autolite 3923s and like them, I have a set of the NGK V-Grooves waiting to go in next..

With the NGKs the R5671s and R5672s are gasket seat, with the 71's being non-projected tip design (probably better for nitrous), and the 72s projected tip. They have various heat ranges in each style - 71s in 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 and 72s in 8, 9, & 10.
