ati procharger, 8 #'s good?
ati procharger, 8 #'s good?
I was looking around and tring to decide what would be best for my car. I see a lot of people have the vortech but i'm leaning toards the ATI procharger. the p600 with 8 pounds of boost. the kit goes for 3500 new or close to that, i don't want anything dressy or good looking, i just want it to work like it should. it lists gains from 50-60 % increase in horsepower.
thats plenty for me. with just basic bolt-ons and full exhaust and a tune, should my car do fine with this supercharger? would i need to upgrade anything else like the fuel pump, injectors, FPR or anything else? I just want to get it on and go.
i dont know much about them so please give me your thoughts. would it be a good system for me to go with? and it says it needs a twin intercooler. where do i pick that up at? who has the best prices on the kit or other parts?
thanks

I would never expect a stock LT1 to "do fine" with a blower. Maybe you will get lucky though. At this point, unless it was someone who had no problem with the thought of rebuilding, I would not recommend anything over 6psi on a stock LT1 unless you have better fuel than 93-94 octane available.

Just purchased that exact same kit. I know you will or should upgrade injectors and colder plugs. A tune is a must. Fuel pump comes with the kit. I had a Walbro 255lph pump anyhow. Installing it this Sunday. Not sure how far you are from Toledo if you would like to come watch the madness.

I with Mr. Krause, you will blow your rings/pistons eventually with any real boost and lousy gas.
Here in California, we only get 91 octane and I promptly had a new investment in engine technology after putting on my P1SC.
All said and done, I am happy with ~450 HP because I don't want to destroy the rest of the drivetrain.
Overbuild and strengthen your engine and drivetrain and keep your power well under your durability factor.
Typical rear ends are only good for about 450-475 HP, so unless you go with more, you are going to be investing in u-joints, ring&pinions, and possibly a bigger differential.
For me, I am not a drag racer, so my car can easily keep up/squash a stock vette/WS6/LS1 car. If you love the drags, then cash your IRA/401K and go for it.

Re: ati procharger, 8 #'s good?
i thought the p600b was the lowest boost of the prochargers. I dont think i'd be going over 450 hp with the 8 pounds of boost. it would probibly put me near 450. I just like to kill anything on the road, but i want a better 1/4 mile time also. I thought with 8#'s i'd be good to go. my car has almost 75k miles on it and no signs of trouble, runs extra strong. would i be better off with a vortech with 6 pounds of boost? i'm just shopping for the least expensive kit.
thanks for all the input guys

Re: ati procharger, 8 #'s good?
I wouldn't run any supercharger on a stock shortblock without an intercooler, so I would rule out the base Vortech kit. I'm also not a fan of punching holes in my oil pan, so the P1SC by Procharger sounds like a good fit for your car.
You'll still probably end up with a shortblock rebuild in your near future anyway...
