ATI Hub Engagement on Crank
ATI Hub Engagement on Crank
I've installed and removed the dual key-way ATI big block style hub on the snout of the crank a couple of times as it just doesn't appear to be pressing on more than about 1.000" to 1.250" and this doesn't seem like enough, but when I check the pulley alignment of the engine accessories with that of the "built-in" balancer pulley, they are aligned. Has anyone else experienced this???
You can measure the distance from Timing Gear to the seal and make a mark on your hub with a marker so you'll know if it is bottoming against the timing gear. Also don't forget to use the spacer if your not using the OBD2 reluctor ring. I had to buy this tool from jegs to get mine to seat plus two trips to the machine shop for honing.

This is what I am finding as well...I'll make some measurments today, but it doesn't appear that the back of the hub is coming in contact with the spacer (not using the crank sensor reluctor ring) and the crank timing gear, although the alternator and p/s pulleys appear to be lined up with the ATI balancer pulley. The hub of the balancer has been properly honed for the crank snout. Trying to run a 12 rib belt for an F1-A and only having the hub engaged approx. 1" into the snout of the crank seems seriously inadequate to me.
I was one of the first people to get that BB OD Hub. I thought the same thing when I put it on years ago. It looks like it has some room to go, but it didnt go any farther with a hub installer, so I figured that was it. I am running a 12 rib D1 and it has survived for a few years now and a bunch of dyno passes and 1/4 mile passes.
