I ran mine for 3 years and about 20,000 miles w/o a problem. ATI P600B(that should tell you how long ago it was), good tune (on the street w/ a wideband), stock motor down to the manifolds. It went 12.4s on a stock converter and 26" ET Streets and others have went faster. I toasted it after I took a little less timing out under boost to run a bike. At least I won.

Suite yourself and listen to the performance shop you went to. When a shop tell you that a 8psi intercooled boost is safe for your car is that they are not being honest or don't have real life experience on LT1 cars.

The people here are telling you their shares of supercharged a stock LT1 and end up a rebuild. And most people here have more sc experience than a performance shop.
