Question Air flow ?

How important is it to have a free flowing intake on a SCd car? The airbox has a cone style filter in it which has a removable cover. The box has a hole about 3" to let air in from the fender. The lid of the airbox can be totally removed exposing the cone filter. Would I benefit by removing the lid or is the 3" hole in the airbox enough?

The vehicle is a Procharged Escalade.

Thanks!

Anything you can do to improve airflow into the supercharger or turbo will improve performance. The less restriction the better. If you could get by without running an airfilter at all, that would be best for performance, but obviously that's not recommended for a street engine/car.

Thank you

Anyone else? Some people seem to believe I need to be careful with the intake air temp with the exposed filter.

The SC is intercooled as well.

Everything from the air filter all the way thru to the throttle body causes restriction to the air flow (pressure loss...a.k.a boost lost). Anything you can do to help the air flow be less restrictive will increase boost at the engine. Having an exposed air filter is good but, you don't want it so low that it could suck up water in deep puddles and such.
