5W-30 or ?

Since I seem to go through about 1 qt of oil every couple of tanks, I am considering leaving the 5W-30 manufacturer's spec and going to the 10W-30, as allowed in the owner's manual. The manual specifically states DO NOT USE 20W-50. Why?

In speaking with others, it seems that turbo and supercharged cars consume a lot more oil than NA. Even the Subarus and Evos have lots of black smoke accumulation out their tailpipes.

The bearing clearances are setup to use a thin oil.

A quart every couple of tanks is A LOT! How many miles, 500 or so? One quart per a 3000 mile change interval would be considered more normal.

What is your oil pressure like? Should be ok with 10W30.

Oil burns blue. Black smoke is fuel.

Where do you live? Is the car a daily driver? Are you sure you're burning the oil? Have you pulled the plugs to look at them? More information is needed. Stock motor? Since you posted in the F.I. section, I would presume the motor has been worked on. You may consider running 30w if you are not driving in a winter climate.
