383 Parts list?
383 Parts list?
I will be yanking my motor in June-July time frame to build the bottom half. I have a set of ported stock heads by advanced induction with all the extra goodies I could afford waiting to be put on. I can post the full specs on them when I get home and the cam I had ground. My question is what should I be looking for, to build out the bottom half. This thread is specifically for the short block parts. I am looking to run 12-15# on it after it is done. I want to be as close at 9.0.1 with stock heads so I think I need a -31cc pistion. Correct me if I am wrong or there is something better suited.
Here is what I plan to buy so far:
-31cc Inverted Dome SRP Pistons
-4340 3.750" stroke crank (Should I look at Eagle or Callies and which line?)
-Manley 4340 H-Beam Rods - (5.7" or 6.0")
-Clevite 77 Cam, Main and Rod bearings (Anything specific I need?)
-Total Seal Maxseal Gapless top rings. (What bore and size should I look for?)
-Melling HV Oil pump
-ARP main studs / Billet 4 bolt mains (currently a repro LT1 in car w/4 bolt mains)
-Cloyes double roller timing chain
Am I missing anything? Looking for 600 or above to the tires.
Later tonight or tomorrow I will post my blower cam specs to see if that will work well with a 383 as well.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: 383 Parts list?
Skip the HV pump unless you will be using an aftermarket (larger capacity) pan. Use the Hellfire rings, not the gapless. Callies >> Eagle. You will need an electric WP to use the Cloyes timing set. Callies is a good source for entire rotating assy.

Re: 383 Parts list?
Does a 383 typically use a 6.0" connecting rod or would it be the 5.7"? Why should I use one versus the other?
Also Callies - DragonSlayer or the RaceMaster?
Should I look at using the GM or Lunati double roller timing chain or does the electric wp offer a big advantage over the stocker? I live in norther VA and can get stuck in traffic any time of the day any day of the week, cooling is a huge consideration in anything I do. That is main of the reason I ordered the new top end.
I do plan on getting an aftermarket radiator and a cowl hood to help get some of the heat out of the engine bay.
Didn't get a chance to get my cam specs last night and this morning went by too fast. Thanks for the help.
I will probably take your advise, Rich and order everything I can from Callies. I had considered doing it before you mentioned. Just trying to get a better idea as to what it is I need to ask for. I am not doing the internal work myself, but do want to learn as much as possible in the process.
