3" Blow Off Valve Piping. WTB?

I'n the past few years as I've been preparing for my eventual Turbo Z28 (which is being daily driven now ) I'd seen the odd piping ad that offered an intercooler pipe that had the flange for the BOV already welded on. Have any of you purchased one? I'm leaning towards the Turbosmart MegaSonic for the BOV but I want a pipe that already has the proper flange welded on it. I need a 3" that has a suitable flange for the TS BOV. Any input?

All the BOV's I have seen are supplied with the proper flange but you will need to have it welded on. Its fairly simple and cheap to buy an elbow, drill the hole, and have the flange welded on. I haven't seen any pipes with the Megasonic flange already mounted.

Usaully they weld flanges on 2.5" pipe and use the HKS SSQV flange/ Greddy flange. Buy the BOV and have a shop weld the flange on. Shouldn't be more than a few bucks.

You don't have a BOV currently?

No I don't. But I've only gone into boost about 6 times now and just briefly.

Just make sure you are far enough away from the MAF, or the turbulence from the BOV will make the MAF screwy. (I’m guessing blow through MAF since you want a BOV)

I have some pictures if you would like to see mine.

Perfect. Thanks for that. I ended up buying a Tial 50mm from turbochargers.com (Local to me) because the guy said he'd have his machinist/fabricator weld the flange onto a 3" stainless straight so I could pick them all up on my lunch hour tomorrow (Thursday July 17th). They offer a 'kit' which includes the BOV, pipe w/flange welded on, two 3" silicone couplers and four T-bolt clamps for $29x.xx

I'd plan to mount mine right where you picture yours. My setup looks quite a bit like yours. Metal elbow (Vortech in my case) to the MAF, then 3" going to the intercooler. That transition from the MAF then down thru that hole is never very elegant. On both yours and mine, it would be nice to have an up-pipe that went went straight up that hole, then (assuming looking down on a clock face) as it bent 90 degrees, the pipe went it the direction of 10:30 about 5 or 6 inches before turning left to go straight into the MAF.

Like you, I've also removed the ABS block, installed the line lock and gone to the LTCC. Unfortunately, my brand new LTCC box has issues and I'm sending it back to TurboBob to have an autopsy performed. It's my second box (I had two Z28's for a while) so I know how to hook one up having bought the first one in 2003 and it worked flawlessly all those years. Right now I;m using a stock 96 ignition w/new 'Summit' opti, but I'm anxious to get back to the LTCC.

Where did you source your vacuum signal for the Tial? I've got my Turbosmart Wastegate tied to the drivers side of the Intake as well as my Autometer Boost Gauge. I'm new to BOV's so when the first guy I talked to said the Tial would be provided with the 7psi (he referred to it as a 'soft') spring, it didn't mean anything to me. What does a 7psi spring provide that is beneficial over some other setting?

I run the Tial as well, and am very satisfied with it.

I agree that MAF area sucks. The rest of my pipes are new and painted gloss black. The top pipe is from the supercharger kit, I plan to finish that up one of these days, but I have a grocery list of stuff to do and this works for now.

I installed my LTCC in '03 or '04 as well and have nothing but great things to say. One of my items on my grocery list is to hook up the launch control.

I run my BOV vacuum signal of the driver side vacuum port (ATI procharger)

With a turbo, you could run the waste-gate off the turbo pressure fitting on the compressor, then the BOV from the vacuum port. I also tee'ed my boost gage into my passenger side vacuum port.

The springs designate where the BOV will open.
Between:
- 22 and -23 in/Hg Pink -12 Psi (-24 in/Hg )
-18 and -21 in/Hg Un-painted -11 Psi (-22 in/Hg )
- 14 and -17 in/Hg White -9 Psi (-18 in/Hg )
-10 and -13 in/Hg Black -7 Psi (-14 in/Hg )

The 7 psi spring will open between 10 and 13 in/Hg. Depending on your cam, that should be a good choice. Turbocharged, you will want the BOV closed at idle and cruise, open after throttle, and snap closed again. Too much spring pressure can cause compressor surge. (you will notice a flutter sound and not air dumping)

I found a place that offers the stainless pipes with flanges already welded on. It's siliconeintakes.com on their BOV section. They are like $20 to $25 in various sizes. I paid a local guy $70 for mine
