1st Shakedown Pass in the Turbo Z28 LT1

Well... Only got to make the one pass tonight. The Clutch got kind of stuck after the burnout when I was going to do the second pass. It was weird. THe pedal felt fine but the clutch wouldn't disengage so I could put it in gear. The burnout went fine and the car hopped right up to the staging lights. I clutched it so I could tickle the car into the staging beams but it was acting as if I'd never pressed the clutch pedal. I had to be pushed back off the track. Once there, with the motor off, I put it in reverse and cranked it. It bumped a couple of times, then caught and I backed it into the pits. After that, the clutch made a few 'inappropriate' sounds like squeals but returned to functional status. WTH? Anyway, on the one pass...
I'd ran out of time and didn't get to unbolt the front sway bar. I also didn't get to swap out the stock LCA for my BMR. This caused the 245x50x16 Nitto DR's to do some wheel hopping. I *did* the short 1st to 2nd shift and 2nd gear felt flat wonderful, then I shifted to 3rd and 4th normally but the acceleration felt a bit flat so I let off before the end of the track.
Result:
Reaction: 0.135
60 foot: 2.017
330 ft mark: 5.417
660: 7.941
MPH1: 108.52
1000 ft. Mark: 10.041
1320 ft mark: 11.876
MPH2: 119.86

The time slip is so grainy it's hard to see and I'll post it in a minute. The Cobra beside me thought he was going to hand me my head. I think once I got into 2nd gear, he had a rethink moment. Looks like he let off and coasted...
Here's the pass. Please forgive my wife's shaky camera work (Think Blair Witch), lol..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O70nJ42L1WQ There's no need to watch after the 13 second point.
You'll notice some 'stuff' coming out of the exhaust in 3rd and 4th. I don't know if it was running lean (max PSI for the run was 14.4) or rich. I have a wide band in the pod but I didn't look at it. The car wiggled a bit in second and I was focusing on that. Like I mentioned, acceleration felt a bit flat in 3rd and 4th. I'll have a look at the plugs and take a 3rd gear pull to watch the wide band and see if I can determine what's going on.
It sure felt great to be racing on the track again after a 5 year absence.

the car is flying to do 108mph by half track!!! You typically gain 28-30mph with turbo cars in the back half. If I remember correctly, when justin ran 10.8 @ 128 he only had 100mph 1/8th!

I suppose it could be that. I have new heads(Canfields) and gaskets ready to go on.

Damn 108 in the 1/8th is MOVING, that should go 136+ in the back end.

Sounds encouraging! Thanks for that input. This is still with the untouched mail order tune too!

What are your next steps for diagnosing the issue?

Oh snap, I missed the lift part... I thought perhaps it didn't pull through the second half!!! That changes alot... definitely could be more clutch related.

That is hustlin' ! I'm pretty sure you will see the north end of 130 + after you sort out your clutch / tuning issues

Thanks! I'm putting a built Th350 back into it. The tranny should be here in a week or two. Just gotta figure out what TC of Vigilante's to go with. I'll give Precision Industries a call tomorrow and give 'em my specs/setup and see what they recommend.

Dave,

Shoot Justin a PM and get his opinion. He has runs a number of TC's with a TH400, turbo and nitrous experience, he can offer advice!
