shorty headers would probably be the only option to stay emission legal in Ca the only reason I say that is cause shorty headers keep the CAT in the same spot.

as well as mid-length headers. there are a few good ones out there, most just as good as the longtube headers too. i went with MAC mids with the dual y-pipe from LMperformance.com for my 97, but if you do order them from this company, please do call them before to make sure they have them in stock and ask how long shipping will take. i ordered mine Dec. 4 and still have yet to recieve them after i was told they were in stock. i've ordered from the company before and that was fine, its just this is taking a little while...other option would be ordered direct from macperformance.com but their price is a little higher. hope that helps, and i know there are other mids out there so lets see what everyone else has

SLP makes CARB legal headers as well. 1-3/4 primaries all stainless.

to be honest with you, i dont even know what the carb no. is, still very new to a lot of the stuff here. i dont want to give you false information, but i just know that the mid-length don't move back the cat and with the cat it would be legal here

Pretty sure the only Carb # headers are the shorty hookers and the SLP

you can tune most things to be emissions legal though. I've heard of people running pace setter longtubes w/ the emission hookups that are passing emissions, idk about in cali tho

Thanks for the rely! carb, is california air resourse board.which every part that replaces stock parts have to have it . to be legal in calif. headers, air cleaner, throttle body, etc. Its real expensive for manufactures.

To be "legal" in California, they need to be approved (emissions testing certifications submitted for approval) by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and have a CARB-EO certification number on a tag welded to the headers.

There is an online listing of approved parts, on the CA government website. Its so long since I lived there, I don't have the link any more. JBA makes a CARB-EO header, but they aren't that great. The dual-cat cars are at a major disadvantage, because of the requirement to keep the dirver's side cat in its stock location, at the bottom of the stock manifold. As a result, "legal" headers have to snake the primaries up over the valve cover, where the heat melts everything in sight.

Just look at the SLP's...... you know what that square is in the picture? Heat shield to help stop them from melting things. AS&M made some CARB-EO dual-cat headers, but they had so many problems with them melting everything under the hood, they stopped making them. A buddy of mine had a used set on his 97 Z28. They came with sheets of thermal shielding for the engine compartent. We went halfsies on another roll of thermal blanket from Summit. He kept the headers for a few months, and ripped them out because the heat was melting everything. He went to a buddy of his at SLP and got a set of the extrude-honed factory manifolds that SLP used on the LT4 F-Bodys.
