Trying to move muffler, need some help...
Ok, here's the deal. My car is a Y87, so it already has dual exhaust. Im happy with the sound, so I don't really NEED to change out the exhaust system. However, I would like to have some nice tips that come all the way out the back, instead of turndowns. Unfortunately, the Y87 mufflers are mounted offset; that is to say, the distance from the tailpipes to the side of the bumper is not uniform on both sides. I took it to my mechanic, to see what could be done, and he told me that the only way to fix it without replacing the muffler is to push the pipe that connects the mufffler to the cats farther into the muffler; if I move it enough, the tailpipes will be even on both sides.
Now here's the problem: ater much trying, I managed to get the clamp off. However, the pipes are still stuck together and won't budge. I'm not sure if it would be wise to spray my exhaust pipes with WD-40, but that is all I can think of at the moment. What should I do? How can I get the pipe to go farther into the muffler when I can't get it to move at all in either direction?
What should I do?
Thanks for the help,
Frank

Really? I asked my shop if they could replace the taipipes, and they said it was impossible without changing the whole muffler...
Right where the tailpipe comes out of the muffler and makes it's bend toward the rear of the car, they should be able to section in a couple inches of pipe to extend it out. I don't see how it could be that hard. Sounds like they're just trying to take you for a ride.
I'll have to see what a shop says about that. Is it worth bothering going to a chain like Monroe?
