SLP headers

Does anyone run these? I tried a search, but the search function is acting up.
I just put a set on my 1993 Z28 and it was probably the biggest test of nerves I have ever had working on a car. It took me about 8 hours yesterday, then 2 more this morning.

Here is a quick run-down while it is fresh in my head for those interested. The factory manifolds and y-pipe came off without much hassle. I sawzalled off the y-pipe since I was not keeping it. The passenger side header installed from the top by removing the valve cover, and jacking up that side of the engine a few inches. The alternator came off as well. The dipstick tube was a MAJOR PITA to get back in and bolted to the block. The drivers side also went in from the top, and had to have the engine jacked up as well. I took the valve cover off on this side too. That might not have been necessary though. I also had to remove the steering shaft. I also had to install a "shorty" type plug in the #5 cylinder because the plug just about hit the primary tube. There was no room to get the spark plug boot on. It is very close to the primary still, so I put a sleeve on the boot. I also had to extend the drivers side O2 wire about 5 inches.
I am thinking of changing the wire routing to go over the headers as well. The plugs appear to be harder to change than with the manifolds too.

Be warned. Installing headers on these cars is not an easy job at all. I put an intercooled Procharger on my Mustang in less time and I was not a sore and beat-up afterward. I would certainly pay someone to do it again!

Ill have to agree with you, it was 2 days of hell for me. I put both of my headers in from the bottom though, and i didnt need a special plug for #5. If i had to do it over again i would still go with the SLPs though. I got them for $400 on clearance and they are stainless steel. They dont go in too easy but i didnt loose any ground clearance so im happy i dont have to worry about speed bumps.

I agree the SLP's are a bitch to install and the plugs are a PITA too but they're a nice quality piece. I guess thats the price you pay to have 1 3/4" primaries and great ground clearance. I think my pass. side went in the bottom with out jacking up the motor. I think the drivers side went in from the top with the motor jacked up.

My pacesetters were hell as well. Just because it looks easy on the tutorials doesnt mean a thing. You will run into all sorts of little problems.

My pacesetters have 1 3/4 primaries though, and the plugs and wires fit great in stock form. I did have to bend the ears in on my steering shaft though.

All the trouble was worth it in the end though.

Probably taking off the old exhaust was one of the harder parts for me. Especially when I finally broke one of the last bolts free and the full weight of the y-pipe came crashing in my jaw. I made a wise investment and bought a Sears reciprocating saw and that made hacking off the old exhaust alot easier.
