ratteling coming from catalytic converter?
Lately Ive been hearing this ratteling noise coming from the cat I think. It almost sounds like some pieces are ratteling around in the cat. Is that possible? Time for a new one?

Re: ratteling coming from catalytic converter?
Possible... the catalyst is embedded in a ceramic honeycomb substrate. Overheat it and it can be damaged, melting or breaking up. But before jumping to conclusions, get under the car and pound on the shell to see if it rattles.

Tried that and it rattled. Is it bad to drive around like that? Also, where can I find a new part?

Re: ratteling coming from catalytic converter?
You're OK until something plugs up the exhaust. Then you'll start to lose power.
Have no idea what replacement parts are available. The original cat was welded to the Y-pipe. Since you have a BBK Y-pipe, yours will already have been cut off. You can probably find a "universal" replacement converter for $125-150. It would have to be installed by a muffler shop. Hopefully, NY is not as demanding as CA, where all replacements have to be specifically CARB-EO certified.

Re: ratteling coming from catalytic converter?
It's "universal" and may require a muffler shop to connect it to your Y-pipe and flange it to match the catback. If you have the stock cat, it has already been cut off the stock Y-pipe, and someone had to figure out how to attach it to the BBK Y-pipe.
Check the length shown in the listing to make sure it matches the space you have available.
