Questions About Pacesetters for my Z28

Hey guys, I'm looking to pick up headers and a y-pipe early next month for my '94 Z28 6SPD. I already have a used Borla Catback sitting in the garage that will go on with these headers/y-pipe. I heard a video on Youtube of an LT1 with a similar setup that sounds beyond amazing. I have a few questions:

1. On the Pacesetter's Camaro website, they offer "Camaro/Firebird 5.7L LT1 for the 94-95," but also "93-97 Camaro/Firebird 5.7 LT1 headers" that are "RACE (No AIR or EGR)." What are the pros/cons of going with EGR/AIR vs going without? I heard that there really isn't much power improvement when going without. Just problems with check engine lights. Is that true? Also, the car will only be driven in the summer time as my daily driver and won't meet the miles to worry about emissions. Though I don't want to be blowing black smoke either lol. I found a guy selling 70-2239 headers locally that are nicely priced. I'm waiting on a call back to see if they're still available. What will I have to do to convert my car to use these "RACE" headers vs if I went with 94-95 ones that have the EGR/AIR? What will I lose?

2. I have a $25 gift card for eBay that I received as a birthday present last month. I was hoping to pick up an ORY from eBay so that I can knock the price out of pocket a bit. What do you guys think about this? Is that a fair price? It's Pacesetter brand so the quality should be good!

Thank you guys! I appreciate the help

the only diffenence between the two headers are there are no provisions for the AIR hook ups on the exhaust like the stock manifolds , and u wont be blowing black smoke unless you are poorly tuned and over fueled . so u will be fine unless u are trying to pass emissions then u will want the ones with the air hookups, so the egr basicly has nothing to do with the headers so that doent factor into the air hookups,

i would go with the headers without the air hook ups, it removes alot of hoses in the way and your tuner can turn off the air in your tune so u wont get a check engine light from removing the air system

Sounds good man

The guy selling the used Pacesetters (Part # 70-2239) still has them for sale, so I'll probably go that route for the headers. Since these do not have the EGR and AIR option, what exactly must I do to have the car running its best (and without a check engine light)? Is a tune really necessary. If so, I might go the PCMforless route. I've read good things. Please shed some light ha.

The Engine Light will come on if you remove the air system. No big deal, mines been on for a year, you can send the PCM out for a custome tune to have the air system deleted so the light stays off. I am sending mine to texas speed this winter.

send it out to soloman to have it tuned , i have heard way to many people wasting money with pcm for less and there stuff coming back way off,

u can unhook all the air lines off and leave the air pump so u wont get a check engine light , but it would be best to get a tune to get the most from your headers

Not sure why? I have the pacesetter headders, SLP Y-pipe (3-1/2") and SLP exhaust....installed in about 4 hours....no problems.

The EGR riser tube connects to the #8 primary.... so I would say it does have something to do with the headers. Obviously is has nothig to do with the AIR system, different connections for each system. Except on the 93, where the AIR and EGR systems are integrated. That's why there are 93-97 non-emissions headers, but only 94-95 on specific models of the emissions headers.

In the OBD-I cars (as in the original poster's 94), you can remove the complete AIR system, and the SES light will not come on as long as you have a good fuse in the system. Running with the SES light on is risky... how is it going to tell you about the other 30 or 40 items that it can indicate problems with?

EGR usually does not set a code in OBD-I. You eliminate the EGR vacuum solenoid code by using a resistor in the harness connector, and the diagnostic for detecting EGR flow by cycling the EGR valve and looking for a corresponding change in MAP is not very sensitive, compared to the OBD-II diagnostic.
