O2 sensor ruined. Can i drive it unplugged?

O2 sensor ruined. Can i drive it unplugged?
What happens if i unplug the O2 sensor? The wire burnt almost through on the headers and i need to drive the car till i get new ones. Will this hurt anything? Does the car just go into some limp mode and use a preset value?
