I have a 1995 z28 with no extra mods besides a K&N CAI. The exhaust it has on it now are long skinny rectangular ones that it came stock with. They aren't loud at all unless I floor it... I am really looking to make the exhaust a deeper and louder sound. What would be the cheapest and best way to do this?! Just buy some new tips? or a whole new system? If you guys could give me some opinions and or let me know some of your setups that would be great!

Tips wont help with a louder sound. I have a magnaflow catback. I installed it before headers and was happy with sound, performance gain, looks and fit.

Any aftermarket exhaust will give you more tone. Look in the sale area for good buys if cost is an issue.

Research all the types of exhaust. Many comment on the sound being raspy, or deep, or very load ect. Find one that fills your needs and budget.

Common types are Mangnaflow, slp loudmouth, Borla, Flowmaster, GM performace, Mac, ect.

Also consider dumping that gold emblem on DS rear!!!!

Go there and check out all the different exhaust setups to decide what you would like yours to sound like. Keep in mind that a new catback will run you about $400 t0 $800.

Changing out the tips wont change the sound at all. All it will do is give you offset tips. Notice that the inlet on both is on the left, while every other tip inlet is in the center.

And please take off that gold emblem.

Dont be like the rest of the douches ( non- F-bodies) who add emblems to their cars. My absolute favorite to laugh at is the side fake vents every piece of junk car I see on the road has!!!!!

 

Well it was on their when I bought it... I'm a poor *** college kid I wouldn't waste any money of that stuff.... But i'll look into having it taken off. But in the mean time show me some more setups or cites with cheap parts!

 

Its on with double sided tape. Hairdryer helps to get it loose to pull off.

 

If the pipes are in good shape, you could just replace the muffler( Magnaflow #12267).

 

You can also use a peice of fishing wire and some WD40 to get it off.

 

depending on what your preference in sound is, you can get a cutout. I got one installed in the I pipe and I personally like it. You could probably find one under $100 dollars and installation was $50. unless you want an electric one. I bought electric ones, but decided I don't need it because I leave it open all the time. if you want to hear it on a z28 check out dmhperformance.com, they have a sound clip of a 99 z28

 

ya im in the same boat as you right now. im personally going to do the whole exhaust, not just the tips.

i also agree with everyone else about the gold decal.....take it off man.

 

if you're on a strict budget (you mentioned being a college student, I know I haven't spent anything on my car in the past 2 years ) I'd just throw a flowmaster 40 on there. and call it good until you get out of school.

 

Here's how I have my exhaust set-up now.

 

And drill 4 holes into the exhaust pipe on top of where the pipe goes over the back wheel to relive the back pressure,and it will bring a smile to your face,no kidding.My02.If you are going to do an exhaust system later anyway,why not.It works.My2.
