Question Muffler vs No Muffler

So is there any advantages/disadvantages to running my car with no muffler and just running strraight pipes from my headers back to dump right after the axels where the pipe is suppose to connect to the muffler?

Lightbulb

It would be easier to dump it with a turn down before the axle, I drove my car that way for a few months and the only difference I noticed is that it was loud even with mild acceleration, not just full throttle. And with a nice high flow muffler, only loud at full throttle, IMO!

I've got a Flowmaster 80 Series muffler already on it (was on it when I got the car), so I would just cut the pipe where it connects to the muffler right after my axel pointing down. Yea, I know it'll be loud at all levels of throttle because I had my previous car running without mufflers too, and I loved the loud noise. I've heard a couple of sound clips of straight pipe LT1s and the LT1 sounds better in my opinion raw and unmuffled than my old mustang did. I'm just curious if the are any pros/cons to a muffler vs nonmuffler set up.

With a restrictive muffler removed from your exhaust you'll notice a difference, but with a high flow muffler probably not!

People have been posted that they get less low end torque and one person said less gas milage due to straight pipes. Just want to make sure that straight pipes couldn't cause that.

You will not lose torque by removing the muffler, and fuel mileage will not drop. I have duals, with two 3" pipes turned down before the axle.... I have verified on the dyno that I am not losing torque or HP with that system.

Thanks Injuneer, those were my worries. I like the raw sound of the motor, and if it get annoying, I can always throw a LM2 Resonator or the Borla version (think it's XR-1 or something).

If anything, I should gain top end power by removing my Flowmaster 80 Series muffler right?

magnaflow 4x9 straight thru mufflers keep the noise under control and don't restrict anything...and are cheaper than the XR1s.

search for my vids of my cammed ls1 with straight pipes and with the MF mufflers.

Is that one of their racing bullet mufflers?

not a bullet...the muffler case is 4" thick, and 9" wide, and i think 12" long.

the internal passage is similar to a bullet, but the muffler has more sound deadening material.

my setup:

the sound...first with straight pipes, then with mufflers. never moved the car or camera:
