Magnaflow Muffler 14267

hey everyone,
I was looking to get a new muffler for my Z28. I really like the stock look with the flat tips and was just thinking of swapping the muffler only. I was on the thunder racing site and saw that they had the magnaflow that swaps right in. would the stock pipes (the ones with the tips on em) fit onto the magnaflow muffler? and also, would there be a big difference between just the muffler and getting the whole catback set up?

thanks!

I did exactly what you're planning on doing, except I bought the non-polished 12267 Magnaflow. The muffler will fit on the stock over axle pipe and the outlet pipes fit the muffler fine, but the tips may be a little off if you use the stock outlet pipes, like this:

Since you're going with the stock tips which have an offset, you may not have the same problem. Even so, my local muffler shop offered to make new outlet pipes for only about $20.

As far as performance, it's my understanding that the bottleneck in the stock exhaust is the muffler, not so much the piping, especially since the stock pipes are 2.75" diameter and the Magnaflow catback is 3". As far as sound, it sounds just the clips posted for the LT1 catback.

The biggest performance hit in the non mandrel bent piping of the 2.75"

Because I hate giving bad answers, I just went and check. Nope, the new hangers will be welded onto the inlet and outlet pipes.

do i need the 14267 or the 14266? the 14266 has a 2.5in inlet, while the 14267 has a 3.0 inlet. i dunno if summit is correct, but it says either will fit.

i was just trying to get a few more mods before the car hibernates for winter
