loud exhast

i just got my new setup running today and the exhaust is way to loud. ive got lt headders, ory, and a rumbler exhaust. has anyone ever added bullet mufflers to the tailpipes to quieten down a litte. its almost as loud as open headders, and i doubt i would make it around the block without getting a ticket.

aslong as you have something that looks like a muffler they can't really do anything to you.

wrong... states have noise ordinances and exhausts cannot peak over a certain decibal level

Might be that way where you live.... but not here in NJ. There is a specific noise limit that can not be exceded. You can't generalize. As noted in the post above, laws vary from State to State.

im not shure about the local noise laws here because they vary from city to city but im shure there is a noise limit in most places. and belive me its loud. im thinking about trying some collector inserts to tone it down a bit. besides that i live in an emissions county and have no emissions equptment left on my car so the less attention i attract to myself the better.

i had that exact exhaust and i thought it was pretty quiet when i stayed out of it

**edit** just noticed your mod list, that would explain the loud. i wouldnt put cats on that. possible throw on a large bullet in place of the resonator or a small one in addition. from what i hear magnaflow is pretty quiet till you nail it and it wakes up. im not crazy about the tone ( on an ls1 anyway) but its S.S and a good value

Didn't realize that about the noise limit, my bad. Perhaps the OP shouldn't have chosen one of the loudest catbacks you can get.

How is it enforced may I ask? Because NJ is one of the loudest places I've ever visited. We have noise laws at night, but during the day nothing is enforced.

Theoretically speaking, the cop could give you a noise ordnance ticket on the spot, which you could most defiantly fight in court unless he whips out a sound meter. But where I live they don't really care to much.

the problem is i dont know exactly wha the noise laws are in my area. the reason i chose that catback is because i got it new but second hand for a good deal from one of the members on this site. i was not thinking about noise then but now that i hear how loud it is, its kind of a wakeup call saying you cant drive it like that on the street.

You could add car chemistry insert(s) into the exhaust pipe. Summit has various diameters and baffels.

I have a similar setup, it sounds delicious. I thought it was too loud at first too but I have since gotten used to it. Every once and a while I'm reminded by it's loudness/awesomeness when people stop what they are doing and look over and stare for a few seconds.

I had the stock square tips fitted to this exhaust and it actually quieted it down a little bit, it's not quite as raw anymore. And I agree with snake eater, it was strangely quiet when rolling around and not touching the gas, and idle isn't too loud either, sounds good with a cam too.

This may be worth a shot:
