I currently have Kooks long tubes coming into a 4" Y-pipe, 4" the length of the car coming over the rear end into a Borla XR-1 4" in--4 out. It is configured like the borla catback system, only 4 in instead of 3. Anyway, it is getting on my nerves (I'm getting old).
Has anyone here tried the 3.5" Mufflex system with the Spintech dual exit muffler?
Or has anyone tried the 4" Mufflex with the Spintech dual exit muffler? How loud is that?
I've tried to find some You Tube videos on how the Spintech sounds on our cars, but not much luck. Everyone's opinion is different on what sounds good, but anyone with experience with the Spintech, I'd like your opinion. Everyone (including myself) loves the sound of the Borla, but like I said, it's too loud.
See my sig for my set up. Makes 570hp at the wheels, so I can't really choke it down too much.
While this doesn’t fallow your request, can you fit a resonator before the axel? I had a V6 that I put a Borla cat back on that sounded horrible (lawn mower like. I was able to add a resonator which toned down the sound a ton.
I had the Mufflex 4” catback w/ the Flowmaster 4” single in-single out race muffler. Had the usual annoying ~2,500 RPM resonance that the Flowmaster produces. On day when I was at Mufflex, Denny (the owner) took me for a ride in his LS1 4th Gen with the single in-dual out SpinTech. But I don’t remember if it was a 3.5” or a 4”. This had to be 15+ years ago. The SpinTech was much more civilized than the 4” Flowmaster. Obviously, the use of the word “civilized” is a subjective measurement. I liked the noise reduction, but doesn’t mean you would necessarily like it. Denny also said based on track times, there was no loss of performance with the SpinTech.
I never switched to the SpinTech because shortly after I installed a Gear Vendors O/D behind the TH400, and the custom Mufflex 3”—> 4” Y-pipe that Mufflex built and installed several years earlier would no longer fit. So I just switched to true duals, consisting of a 3” Borla XR-1 bolted to each collector, and a 3” straight pipe on each side, back to near the rear axle with turndowns. By then it wasn’t driven much on the street, so sound wasn’t all that important. I would expect the SpinTech to be significantly quieter than the 4” XR-1.
Got the new Mufflex exhaust installed today. 3.5 inch from the Y pipe up over the rear axle and into a Spintech muffler with dual outlets.
As posted above, I was looking to quiet down my existing exhaust. Have to say that I am very pleased. Quietened it down some, but still sounds like a muscle car. Best part, however, is that it took care of the obnoxious drone in the 2000-3000 rpm range. The 3.5 inch cleared the rear axle better than the existing 4 inch--you could see where the 4 inch had been rubbing.
I was somewhat concerned about the sound or tone because I really liked the way the Borla sounded and have had it for many years. But, I really like the sound of the Spintech. I think it sounds good and it still sounds mean when you stand on the throttle. Of course, everyone has their own opinion of what sounds good. I will say, however, I think it sounds much better and deeper tone than any of the sound clips of the Spintech system I found on You Tube. They don't do it justice in my opinion.
Anyway, big thumbs up to Mufflex. Install looks really clean and neat.
Glad it worked out OK. I’m always hesitant to give advice on subjective areas like exhaust sound. But this one seemed worth the risk. Mufflex has done all the exhaust work on my car. It’s about 20 miles from where I live. Hole-in-the-wall shop with two bays/lifts, and a small office. A lot of neat custom work.
Thanks guys. Drew, I don't know how to post pics to the forum but if you want to shoot me an e-mail, I'll be glad to send you and anyone else some. I have some before and after shots.

When the “Go Advanced” screen opens, immediately below the message field is “Manage Attachments”. Click it. When the next screen opens, click “Browse Your Device”. Select photo(s) you want to attach. Click “Upload”. Photo(s) should appear, embedded in your message. Sample attached....
All right, I must be doing something wrong. I went through all the steps, picked out the pictures, watched them load, made my notes and hit "Upload". In the next screen, I can see where the pictures are in my reply, but then when I hit "submit reply" or even "preview", I get the message "Are you sure you want to leave?" If I hit leave it deletes everything. If I hit stay, it just closes the message but I can't do anything else.
I loaded that pic while posting from an iPad. I have seen that “do you want to leave the site” message in other apps on my Windows 10 laptop. Maybe a bug in a Windows 10 update? What device were you using?
I'll try uploading from my laptop, but it may be a while later. I need to make my bi-weekly trip to the local super market, and late in the day there seems to be less of a crowd. NJ lockdown is an issue.
Posting from my desktop computer with Win10. I can send pics and documents via email, no problem.
I've never posted a picture here--do I need to activate something in my User CP or something?
Thanks
