Legal Db level in NJ
Legal Db level in NJ
Just wondering what the legal limit is for an exhaust here in New Jersey...I have the slp loudmouth and its crazy loud and was just wondering how badly im going to be harassed.
cops in my town love to ride everyone about their exhaust...i used to have no cats on this thing but they rather just give me a ticket for my inspection...since i got that fixed and every cop in town knows my car and my license number by heart im hoping they dont just start writing me loud exhaust tickets for the hell of it
Well, if you do get pulled over for loud exhaust, just take a chance with it and ask for a Db level test. Hopefully he either doesnt have the equipment, or you end up passing it.
And are you running LM1 or the LM2 in your Sig? If it's LM2, I dont see a problem with it at all. The only time I got pulled over for my loud exhaust wasnt even because of the noise. It was because I was speeding and the noise attracted the Cop's attention.

A buddy of mine with a Kenne Belle S/C 305 92 ......Mustang.... (but that's OK) just went through this with our local inspection station (South Brunswick). They failed him for loud exhaust (it is LOUD). He asked the for a specific citation of the allowable dB limit. They could not provide it. He asked if they had used a calibrated/certified dB meter. They did not. After several visits, and bringing some professional help, the station manager agreed that while they felt his exhaust was way too loud, they had no standard to measure it against. He got his sticker.
Man that pretty funny...i dont care about inspection a buddy of mine is hooking me up next week its just these cops love riding me...You know its bad because a few officers dont even need my license the actually know the number by heart.
Well if you ever go to E-town (raceway park) on a friday night, they will test if they think its too loud. If it passes you should have no worries. My car is not that loud but when I pull into inspection (freehold) it draws their attention. They never questioned it but they open the hood and spend some time with mirrors under the car. One guy sweared he heard supercharger whine and demanded to see the carb EO#, I told him, if you find the blower I'll produce the carb#
