kooks headers and mufflex Y

Can anyone verify whether or not the mufflex Y on Thunderracing's site will match up to KOOKs headers. I called mufflex and the salesman said they are designed for the hooker header which was copied by KOOKs but he did not know for sure if they would fit.

Kooks and Hookers look nothing alike. Instead of gambling on that thing, why don't you just spend $25 extra and get the y-pipe that was built for Kooks headers? Besides, Kooks stuff is outstanding quality.

I'm going to echo you on this one. As far as I know the only y pipe that bolts right up to a Kooks system is also from Kooks.

It's a very tight fit just putting the system together even if it's not on a car and no way in hell did Kooks copy Hookers design.

I have the KOOKs Y and don't like the way the Y comes together at nearly a 90. For anyone else. I am not looking for opinions on how nice kooks equipment is: The question at hand is......Will this Y meet up with KOOKs headers. If you *don't* know the answer....feel free to ignore this thread.

The mufflex rep that I talked to seemed to think they did. He also said that Y *should* work. I'm not looking for a should. I am looking for a WILL.

info@kookscustomheaders.com or 631-586-9002

Why not just ask them then? I imagine they would be able to tell you definitively since you only seem to want "expert" advice.

DelSoto, I was going through this almost 2 years ago myself. I installed a set of Kooks headers, but passed on their y pipe. Like you, I did not like the merge. I was going to buy the Mufflex y pipe and try to get it to work with the Kooks. After speaking to Denny at Mufflex, we both agreed that it would be best if I brought my car down there to have one custom fit. Best thing I ever did to my exhaust. It mates perfectly to my Mufflex 4" cat back. So, to answer your question, no, the Mufflex Y will not fit right out of the box. You will have to have it modified to fit the car. The LS1 Mufflex Y might fit better, as the drives side Kook header points outward like the LS1. Either way, there is no y pipe with a good merge that fits out of the box.

Thank you. That was the answer I was looking for. I'll just have one fabricated.

When choosing the mufflex catback, which muffler did you go with? Right now I have the (of course) KOOKs headers and ORY mated up with a borla catback and it is the nastiest, raspiest exhaust I have ever heard.

Hey DelSoto, no problem. I went with the Flowmaster on my catback, sounds wicked! If you have a y pipe fabricated, do yourself a favor and order this merge:

If it makes it any easier, order the y pipe from Mufflex and have it modified to fit your car. The kit should get you most of the way there. Some pics of my exhaust system are in this thread:

Looks good, Nick. I like the oil relocation you did as well. I am still stuck on whether to do that or not. I will probably buy the mufflex Y and see if I can adapt it.
