hooker longtubes and mufflex y
I just installed hooker longtubes on my car. I ordered a mufflex y-pipe, and it finally showed up today. I have to say that i am a little disapointed with the fit of the y-pipe. The pipe hits my drivesshaft loop and the floorpan where The y merges into the outlet. Is it worth all the extra effort to make this y fit, or is there a better option out there? I think it would take quite a bit of hammering to make this thing clear. But if i beat up this y-pipe, it wont be returnable. I thought about trying to take it somewhere to have them tweak it but no one will touch a car without cats. For 300 dollars shipped, i guess i expected a better fit.
Mine fit perfectly for 4 years. I'm not sure what the problem is, but being in 3 peices you should be able to tweak it to your needs. I guess it depends on where it's hitting, could be motor mounts, etc.

No issues with mine. It actually fits really good on my car and most others that i read about that have them seem to not have any issues. I'd take a good look at everything, maybe the y pipe got messed up during shipping or something.
Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and just had a exaust shop tweak on it a little and weld it up. He only charged 30 bucks plus the price of 1 band clamp. I guess im happy now. I cant believe i havnt drug it on the ground yet. Its about 2 inches off the ground at best.
One of the reasons Mufflex switched to the multiple-piece Y-pipe arrangement was the extremely poor quality control on the Hooker headers, after they moved production to Mexico several years ago. The header dimensions just weren't consistant any more.
You mention it was hitting the driveshaft loop. Which DS loop are you using?

Injuneer,
It is the BMR one that Thunder Racing sells. I just pulled it for now. With the driveshaft, a BMR torque arm and the 4 inch collector, there isnt much room for one in the tunnel now. I thought about just cutting the loop off it and welding it to the torque arm.
