header install problem
header install problem
is there a secret to getting a long tube header in on the driverside. i have pulled the valve cover, disconnected the steering shaft, pulled plug and wires. it will not go. i have tried top and bottom. wtf. any suggestions? the passenger side dropped in no problem.
I just installed my long tubes over the weekend so it's all fresh in my head. Here are some tips.
1. Remove the oil filter
2. Remove the spark plugs, they're easy to put back in on the driver's side even after the headers are in.
3. Disconnect the engine from the mount on the driver's side while leaving the passenger side connected. Get a jack and lift the motor slightly. Leaving the passenger side mount in will cause the engine to rise and tilt giving you much needed clearance.
4. Unbolt and remove the bracket for the motor mount. It's the main piece that's holding up your progress. VERY IMPORTANT, put the bracket back in place before you bolt the driver's side header in. There's no way to wiggle it around once it's bolted in. I found out the hard way and had to unbolt the header.
5. If that slip fit primary is touching the steering shaft, remember that your engine is still jacked up. I forgot and unnecessarily clearanced mine. (yes I do feel like a schmuck)
The biggest single issue I had on my install was that M'er F'ing oil dipstick tube. Took me ~ an hour getting it out and getting it back in.
