Header Heat..

ok i have edlebrock headers, which in my opinion are crap, there mild steel and they get really really hot under the hood, it makes my hood so hott you cant touch it. And i know thats not good for my brake resivoir, or my gaskets, def not good for the paint on my hood. , as of right now i cant afford to get new headers so who knows of a good heat shield that you can buy or how to fab. one... anybody got any pics?

header wrap until you can afford something ceramic coated. I can't imagine trying to fab a heat shield for headers.

ive always heard header wrap will make your headers rust faster, and to wrap them i would have to take them off

Yes.... wrapping them will cause them to operate well above the tube metal temperature the mild steel was designed to operate at. These high temps cause the mild steel to oxidize (= rust). Also causes the welds to crack. It would be a short term solutions, at best.

That's true, but if your not gonna buy ceramic coated headers it's the only way to keep the heat down. Even if you made a heat shield you'd still probably have to take them off in order to make something that was a good fit.

One approach might be to increase the air flow through the engine compartment. A way to accomplish this is to selectively remove the thick rubber gasket that seals the bottom of the hood to the cowl. Selectively, because water will pour in when it rains, and you don't want it landing on the PCM, wiring, etc.
