Exhaust Headers
Exhaust Headers
Hi All,
First post and I need a little help. Have a 1968 Z28 Camaro with a 302 engine. This car has no ps or ac. The correct engine for that year was MO. However I have a 1969 DZ engine with factory headers. There is a leak or crack and I want to replace the headers with a set of nice ceramic coated headers. Does anyone know the spec. and a decent place to purchase them.
I have looked around on the net and have seen some units priced in the $1600.00 range....to much for me. All advice and suggestioins appreciated.

Re: Exhaust Headers
the motor is a 302, they didnt make to may and if its the original part matching # could be a good keeper. on the header coating what you should do is spend the money on stainless steel you'll be happy with it because the coated headers are steel and will rot out from the inside out and the ceramic coating will come off.the reason gm made 302 engines is back in 69 the class the cars were racing in required a small cubic inch class, so gm came out with 302 engines. they are very few around.

Re: Exhaust Headers
Cera-metallic coated headers are coated both inside and out. They do not "rot out from the inside out". My HTC coated AS&M's are 14 years old, and have nothing more than a couple zits from where there was some minor weld spatter on them when they were coated. They even had a bung welded on #7 for the EGT sensor, AFTER they were coated and that area has not even rusted.
Cera-metallic coating easily outperforms stainless steel:
-keeps the heat in the primaries, reducing under hood temperatures significantly
-that same heat keeps exhaust gas velocity high in the primaries, and increases scavenging, which will pick you up a few extra HP.
-reduces/eliminates rusting and weld cracking due to thermal cycling.
