dual cat set up?
dual cat set up?
I was looking under my car and on the left side up near the manifold there is a large cylindrical lump of steel that I am guessing is a cat. I also have a cat just ahead of the point where the 2 pipes converge into 1. Assuming the left one is a cat is there anything preventing me from just eliminating it. I want to get a set of pacesetter LT's and a cat back system. Are there and other differences in the y section of a dual and single cat set up? If someone could give me a definate answer that would be great because my mouse clicking finger is itching to hit some add to cart buttons online.
It sounds like you have a California emissions car which had the dual cat option on the automatic cars. If you are doing Pacesetter LTs, it is not going to matter if you have a single or dual cat y-pipe as the Pacesetter off-road y-pipe is what you are going to use to hook up to the headers. There is no way you will be able to reuse your existing stock y-pipe on long tube headers.
So basically I put the headers on, add the y-pipe and a cat at the end of that, then the cat back system. I am guessing the ory will need to be cut a bit to fit the cat? I am planning to get a magnaflow cat but i havent decided on a cat back system yet. I like magnaflow products, i run a magnaflow system on my jeep. I will have to sse if they have a cat back system for my car. Thanks for the response 200GTP.

you in CA? Do you have the O2's behind the last cat? And are you
in an emissions state?
Relocating the cats may mean an automatic fail next time you go for emissions check. Of course, not all shops will catch it. I've had mine smogged twice, including once at a dreaded "test only" station, and neither time was it a problem that my cats were further back (due to the headers). Pretty much a crap shoot. Good luck!
well i basically only need to have the cat for looks. NH is not a sniffer state but we do have to do visual inspections. I am a licensed inspector and generally dont bother people over cats unless they are being irritating but on my own car, if i write myself a sticker and get pulled over by the DOT officers I will automatically lose my inspection license of 30 dyas and get fined a min of $250. I checked my RPO's and it shows CA emissions package but the car is originally from VA. Also, does the magnaflow have much droning inside the car?
Possession of a counterfeit sticker also carries MANDATORY jail time and a fine
The Gestapo is alive and well in NJ.
You're lucky... in NJ it can be $10,000 fine, 6 months in jail, and permanent loss of license by the facility you are employed at. Violations are handled in a special "emissions" court, where they make it almost impossible to have a lawyer present.
