Dropping the y pipe?

How hard is it to drop the stock y pipe and cat on a 94 z28? What is involved?

Probably the hardest part will be breaking the old rusted bolts free. I would recommend soaking them all really well with PB Blaster and letting them sit for awhile.

Are there any crossmembers etc in the way?

I'm assuming that I'll have to disconnect the o2 sensors, loosen the bolts at the manifolds, and where it meets the cat back... Anything else you can think of?

You shouldn't have to loosen the bolts at the manifold... If you have extensions and soak everything first you should be able to get it off without too much hassle.

It was the absolute worst part of the job when I did long tubes on my 96... I'm guessing it would be easier on a 94. I couldn't get leverage to snap the bolts off without dropping the manifolds and getting every thing down low enough to get to wrench and jack handle on it.

Thanks for the help! It was pretty easy...

I cleaned up the bolts and studs with a small wire brush...

Soaked all of them with PB Blaster and let them sit...

Soaked them all again with PB Blaster, tapped them with a small hammer, and let them sit some more...

Soaked them one more time for good measure and started turning the ratchet (15mm in case anyone needs to know)

Everything came off easily... Disconnected the driver side O2 sensor and the whole thing just dropped out...

PB Blaster is my new friend!
