Bad exhaust leak on EGR tube.
Bad exhaust leak on EGR tube.
Found a bad exhaust leak today. Its coming out the top of the egr connect to the exhaust manifold. The connection is a bolt at the bottom and it should press fit but it leaks bad. I took some foil and wrapped it around the connection and it stopped for now. Is there a correct and permanent fix for this? The design is a bad one having only one bolt hold the fittings together.
I believe that these will work....

I just got some thin steel sheet metal and made my own block off plate. The mating surface on the EGR makes for a great template. After I removed the EGR, I did the same with some thicker aluminum.
You could also use some copper gasket sealer. Run a bead on the mating surface and bolt your egr down.

Did you try removing the bolt that holds the tube to the exhaust manifold, cleaning off both sides of the connection, cleaning out the threads in the manifold, and cutting a piece of high temp gasket material to fit the flange that bolts to the exhaust manifold? Add some very high temp sensor-safe RTV to the gasket to insure a good seal. If all you want to do is block it off, get the correct blocking plate from sjmmanufacturing.com
