Is Anyone Running Fully Legal?

Is anyone running a fully emissions legal aftermarket full exhaust - headers on back. As in - all emissions hookups and systems still in place - Air, EGR, O2's, CATS, etc.?

Mine is about as close as possible.... Random Tech Dual Cat Y Pipe into an SLP Loudmouth with Bullet Muffler. Stock Manifolds though..... and no emissions system removal at all. CT forces this by checking the ECU for codes along with a complete visual inpsection to pass...

Also not legal noise wise, but that's not as big of a fight

Man, I was starting to think NJ was the only state that "required" emissions systems stay on the car anymore - seems like everyone removes stuff as they please.

I was wondering whether I should even bother exploring the possibility of headers on back. I would have to stay fully legal like you - it seems all the systems (Y's anyway) out there are designed "off-road".

you could get headers with the emissions ( air, egr) holes built into it and a catted y, wouldn't that be enough to stay legal? and if they visually check, you could also do shorty headers, although there's not as much gain as a full long tube. just my .02

Who offers a catted "Y" that will bolt up to aftermarket headers. The problem is finding an off the shelf solution - seems there might have to be fabrication.

most will tell you to get the Y from the same company you get the headers from. for example I have kooks headers and they offer both a ORY and a catted-y. kooks r $$ though.
so just find some headers that you like and fit your needs(budget) and see if they offer a catted y. you could also buy a cat(s) and have an exhaust shop connect it to an ORY if you really want the headers, and really need the cats

Emissions equipment.. what is this you speak of....

Overall it is not just one or two states. Emmissions equipment is a federally regulated thing. So any cop anywhere could pull you over and nail you for a non-stock emissions setup.. if they felt like it. I just do not know of to many who would get on the ground to look, or who have the knowledge to actually look under the hood of all the different vehicles and know what they should be looking for.

Just get an aftermarket Y and cats and have a shop wled them in. My Y is an offroad from Mac w/carsound cats.

Strictly speaking, anyone who has reloacted their cats is not "FULLY" legal. So anyone w/mid or LT headers are not really legal by the definition of the federal law.

You can pass NJ inspection w/ longtubes/catted Y as long as you dont throw any codes (02's). Everyone runs LT's in jersey especially LS1 guys.

You can pass here w/!EGR, !AIR, !rear O2's and !cats. Just so you aren't throwing codes.

But, just because you can pass in your state or area still doesn't mean it is legal. It only means that the local authoritires aren't enforcing the laws.

Basically I was looking for (as close to) a bolt in solution as possible. As in - emission legal headers that will not cause my EGR to throw a code because of low back pressure (I know that is a problem I have seen here quite a bit), and a Y pipe that will accomodate cats and also bolt up to the headers, hangars etc.. It seems many companies that offer emission legal headers only offer an ORY. I guess that means some planning ahead.

I would love to order a complete solution. It is a daily driver - I was looking to avoid farting around with designing something that works from several suppliers and throwing DTC's after its all done.

That's why someone who lives where Great4Speed does, who can remove all kinds of stuff and still "pass" an emissions test - doesn't help (nothing personal). I'll end up in prison with an empty wallet in the great state of NJ for that.

If someone has a complete system they can suggest - I'm all ears.

I understand that, I wasnt sure exactly what he was getting at w/ his question though.

To the thread starter there's a million people in jersey that have ran long tubes for years and have passed state inspections time after time...the law cant do anything to you if the car passes a state inspection...Performance wise the LT's win hands down. I honestly wouldn't waste time w/ shorty's which is the only "legal" option. I had a Lt1 w/ shorties and it stunk but if thats what you want there $lp's,hookers, bbk, pacesetter, etc. out there.

The complete solution would be a texas-speed catted Y pipe and pacesetter combo...Other companies offer more expensive options (kooks,QTP,etc.). Or you could just buy the offroad setup and just weld in some cats. Pypes has pretty cheap ones. Just make sure you have all the 02's, and your good to go. Your making it harder then it need to be
