I love the sound of my current setup, but I picked up a 3.5"" mufflex at a good price last night.
I don't know if it's worth putting on my car or not.

So will upgrading from a 3" Hooker to a 3.5" Mufflex/Spintech help me at all?

Forged H/C 355, should make about 400-410rwhp @ 6300rpm N/A through a very loose 4000 stall. (2.65 STR)
(replaces my current 350, uses the same cam and heads but with more compression)
Already has LTs and the ORY could be modified to accept a 3.5" catback.

The higher redline of the new motor has me thinking that I may need the extra flow.

I have the system. It sounds pretty awesome. I had mac mid length headers and borla exhaust before and ran an 11.49@ 121. I installed long tubes and mufflex and ran a 11.2@ 124.

 

Which Mufflex 3.5".... the one with the single outlet Flowmaster or the one with the dual outlet SpinTech? They sound radically different, but appear to have similar performance capacity.

The numbers posted in the quote appear to have been derived simply by comparing the "square" of the system diameters. I saw a 4" Mufflex handle 1,125HP on a blown 383. When they pulled the Mufflex off to save weight (50#) there was no change in HP through Borla XR-1's bolted to the collectors.

I like the way mine sounds, I don't want to change it.

 

I did the 3 1/2" mufflex cat_back with a spintech single pipe exit on the left side. The Spintech muffler was restriction to flow in my application (Camaro 97ss 383 - D1). I modified the Mufflex single pipe system with a qtp electric cut. That solved the problem. My application was FI, so, the mufflex "chambered" design in not a good option. Chev HiPo had a good article on exhaust systems. and, that sent me on a mission to improve. I ended up with a 3 1/2" perforated pipe dynomax glass fill straight thru 6" round muffler. Don't know how the Spintech would be on a NA application. Hope this helps. B.

 

The Aerochamber muffler is great to about 375hp before it becomes a restriction, and 3" piping is adequate to support about that power level for a single setup...Honestly, you're in the category where it won't make a noticeable difference...The Honker sounds great, so just keep it...If you want all out performance for strip use, get yourself a cutout...

 

My set up is Flow Tech LT's, ORY, and the 3.5in Mufflex/Flowmaster single out. I think it sounds great, def. noticed an increase in power over the dual-dual I had on the car before. Plus I get mistaken for a V6 "SS clone" all the time when the car is off at a show. Start it up and people are pretty suprised.
