01 LS1 cat removal..?

Ok, so Tuesday the formula goes in for it's true dual w/ h-pipe and dynomax ultra-flo exhuast. Somehow I forgot a crucial item. The CAT! My 94 this was a non-issue because it didn't care whether it had a cat or not. Is there anything I need to do to be able to run without the cat on this car? Because I promise the cat will not be there when tuesday is over with lol.

or perhaps if i just read correctly we have 2 cats on these cars? I may have to leave them in the equation for awhile depending on what I need to do to get rid of them =/. Then again perhaps I should check the car and see if they are even there! It sounds louder than my Z28 did when it was stock to me...

You have 2 cats (at least you should). If you remove them, then you will have to have the rear O2 sensors either tuned out in the PCM or replaced with O2 sims. Otherwise you will get an SES light.

I figured an SES light, I can live with that until i can figure something else out. Would it affect how the car runs in the mean time? and where is a good place to get 02 sims?

ok so, I just went and looked under the car. Granted it is 1 AM and there is no moon, and I used my cell phone as a flashlight. There were NO cats under the car already *shrug*. Thought it had that catless sound to it :P. Anyways on the 01's are the cats still near where the passenger would sit? cause it was all straight pipe there lol. (very small pipe too.. WTF! isnt it suppose to be 2.75"? this stuff was like a max of 2"!!)

The intermediate pipe (after the two branches combine) might be 2.75" or larger, but not the stock branches of the Y-pipe.

I think there is a short pipe bolted to each stock manifold, with the cat located on the end of each of those pipes. They are not in the Y-pipe like the single cat on your 94 was.

Yeah, you got it injuneer. The cats are still on the car right behind the manifolds. That y-pipe looks horrid for flow capacity! its almost squared off lol. So how would the car run if I just had the cats removed while its in the shop, and then got an o2 sim later on or had a re-tune done. Would it affect much or cause worse gas mileage or lower power? if the afects are bad I'll just have the cats taken care of later down the road when/if I do headers. If not I'll just run it with no cats and no tune/sims for a couple weeks and have everything from the manifolds back re-done.
