Need ceramic coating place in SC, GA, NC area...
Does anyone know of a GOOD place in South Carolina, Georgia, or NC that can do ceramic coatings? I have bought a LT1 intake manifold and I plan to get it ceramic coated. I was going to ship it off to Paul Berry but I wanted to see if I could drive somewhere to get it done first to save on shipping. I live in Pelzer, SC, and I am willing to drive a reasonable distance to save on shipping rates.
I think there's a place around Charlotte, but I can't remember the name. Maybe someone from that area will post up.
Shipping an aluminum intake shouldn't cost that much. I can't imagine it weighs more than 10 lbs. And with the price of gas right now it may actually be cheaper to ship it
You have to remember, you'll be making two trips; one to drop it off and one to pick it up. So figure two round trips to Charlotte and what the gas will cost.

I have a 87 Accord w/ GREAT gas mileage, so I don't really think that will matter. It's probably a good 25.00 dollars to ship the intake. I would have to pay for shipping up there and back. That's 50 bucks right there.

UPS Ground Service from Columbia to the North side of Charlotte is $5.00 for a 10 lbs. package including $200 insurance coverage in case they loose it. It would be a similar amount to return it to you. You could probably send it USPS even cheaper, but the insurance would be a little more.
Even if you had a Geo Metro you couldn't make two round trips to Charlotte from Pelzer for $10.00, or even $20.00 for that matter. You have to figure more than just gas cost. A big mistake people make is not figuring the overall cost of what it costs to operate their vehicle per mile (tire wear, oil changes, tune-ups and other maintenance). The IRS allows you $0.32 per mile (unless it's changed). And that's pretty low, IMO. Even if you figure $0.25/mile, ask yourself how many miles one round trip will be, then multiply by two. 100 miles would be $25.00. Greenville to Charlotte is at least 100 miles one way. And Pelzer is farther away than Greenville. I'd bet you're looking at close to 250 miles for ONE round trip. At $0.25/mile that would be $62.50 just to get it there and another $62.50 to go pick it up. So even if it did cost $25.00 to ship it (which it won't), you're WAY ahead of the game to ship it. Unless you just want an excuse to go for a long drive

Oh, and don't forget you're probably going to stop and get something to eat and drink on those two trips too.

Paul is awesome to work with. I had him coat my MAC's around 3 years ago and they still look awesome. Shoot him an e-mail or give him a call and tell him that I sent ya
.
He stays quite busy so you might end up getting his father on the phone instead of him. Either way, they are very knowledgable and they will treat you right.
