Talking Guess whose moving to Columbia, SC?

It's me, it's me.

I just took a job with these guys and I start May 10th. I've got some SC questions for those in the Columbia area (if there are any), mainly: Where is "best" place to look for an apartment/house and what is there to do?

I just moved from columbia to charlotte a few months ago. I lived in columbia for a lil over 8 years. I lived in an apt complex called Ashland commons, it was made in the 70's and is a nice/decent apt complex especially for the money. If you're looking for something newer I would suggest a townhome downtown or some of the newer complexes by harbison blvd. If you're looking for a house I guess I would need more info I know of a lot of great neighborhoods just depends on your price and what your looking for. Columbia has a good bit to keep you busy. There's: bowling, playing pool, drinking, nature trails, parks, Lake murray(which I will never swim in again, ask someone about the catfish the size of VW bugs),paintball, gamecocks or clemson football, good people all over, the zoo(especially at xmas time), and there's ALWAYS something going on downtown in the 5 points area usually on thursdays. If you like live music check out my friends at Macs on main. They have really good jam sessions on thursdays.(starts around 8 or so) They are really cracking down on street racing so be careful and on that note NEVER speed in the IRMO area. The cops WILL get you. There are a LOT of F-bodies in columbia so you will feel right at home. Anymore questions let me know.

What part of the Columbia area is your job? There are apartment complex's all over the area - good and not so good. Same with housing developments.

My wife, Linda and I live at Bent Tree Apts., which is located just off the I-26/I-20 interchange. Linda works where we live and has worked for various other properties for over 12 years. Bent Tree is one of the better properties in the area for the money, but there are other good ones too. It is a good idea to check with people in the area first though, just like any area. For example, you DON'T want to live at "The Carriage House" appartments unless you're a drug dealer Or, "Magnolia Place" looks real nice on the outside and they charge a lot of rent, but they are cheaply built, so your utilities will be more.

You may want to pick up a publication called "The Apartment Finder". It's a very handy little magazine with a lot of the properties in the area listed in it. I could probably pick one up and send it to you (don't know if they have a web site or not), but getting it to you before you leave to head this way may be cutting it close.

Once you find a place you're interested in, we can give you as much input as we can about it - good or bad - before you hand out any money

Thanks Steve!

Well, the good thing is that I don't have to live anywhere to specific. Since I don't have an office to report to, I have the flexibility to only have to stay somewhat "central" to Columbia.

The downside is that I start training in St. Petes FL. on May 10th and then I'll do another week in the field in SC, and then I'm on my own. I'm working my "job" that I have now until Sunday the 2nd. So from around tuesday the 4th until the time I fly down to St. Petes I've got to not only find a place to live in a place I've never been before, but get moved in too .

So to say the least, this is going to be interesting

You can get a look at what Bent Tree looks like here:

http://www.apartmentfinder.com/apart...760&aptid=3197

Toll free number: 1-866-213-0754 Local number: 1-803-798-2543

The pricing for the 1 bedroom is not correct on the web site. If I'm not mistaken they start at $565, but they are having a special right now for something like $47 off. The best thing to do is give them a call and tell them Linda and Mark Snyder referred you (we get a discount on our rent if you end up renting there ) You'll talk to either Melisa, Sandra or Krista if you call today.

If there's anything else I can do let me know.

Thanks man

I'm making lists right now. I just finished one for specifically Columbia, then I'm moving on into St. Andrews and from there who knows (I have a list of 12 so far and I'm pretty picky ).

My plan so far is to head up there Tuesday and spend a full day checking out everything and then signing something on Wed. Who knows if I'll be able to get moved in since I'll have to fly out next Sunday and I haven't packed a thing.

Scratch that

They just offered me a position in Birmingham since they had a transfer that changed his mind at the last second. It looks like I'm staying right where I am...rent free might I add
